Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

With all the rain that had blown through earlier in the week, the school administration had been worried that welcome picnic day would be wet and gloomy. Thankfully, it was sunny, warm, and beautiful outside, and everything had been set up just in time for the shuttle of new folks to arrive. There was a buffet table of food and drinks waiting, along with the list of Big and Little Siblings, the list of roommates, and more name tags than they'd probably need for three picnics.

Also, there wasn't a single flower out on the lawn after last weekend. Just saying.

With everything in place, it looked like it was time for the first summer term to begin!

Edward had sobered some in the hours since arriving at the terminal. Unfortunately, that meant his head now hurt every time he tilted it wrong, and so he had retreated to the shadows to avoid the sky's blistering assault on his senses.

He had simply followed the others here, as this seemed to be where everyone had been going. But he was without his letters, and so no amount of looking around had made it clear exactly where he was-- he'd have to ask, once the pain faded.

Any moment now.

Evan supposed there was, at least, a way of making use of a telepathic dinosaur while at the same time getting her and Ozzy out for exercise. See, if he leashed one to the other, and then told Old Lace to keep an eye open for new boys around the park, then he could get so much more done, today!

How fortunate was it that Old Lace noticed the one sitting somewhat away from the crowd, first? New people were easiest to sniff out when they weren't surrounded by the old ones, after all.

It was probably a little more fortunate that, after pointing him out to Evan, O.L. and Ozzy stayed back a reasonable distance so as to not freak out anybody not used to dinosaurs. Or, perhaps, stubby dogs.

"Hey," Evan said, doing his best to sound cheerful as he approached the other boy. "I don't suppose you've seen someone named Edward around here?"

Barry probably should be doing the social thing and be looking for his sib but he was instead looking at his tablet and taking readings of the island.

He had however put on a name tag just in case someone was looking for him.

Fortunately, Cecil was good at reading name tags. Even in the semi-distracted mood he was still in. He deliberately pushed those stupid cassette tapes from his mind as well as he could, and set out with Foucault to find...

"Barry?" He gave the boy a little wave in case he looked up. "Hi!"

Isabelle had a nametag on her shirt and an easy smile on her face, and she was ready to welcome another fake little sibling.

Perhaps Kaylin would be less likely to trigger an urge to punch than her last one had been.

A big sister? Kaylin had certainly never had one of those before. She want sure how she felt about it, but well, maybe it wouldn't be a bad thing.

It didn't take her long to realize she had to wear one of the funny tag things and to go searching for someone wearing the right matching one.

"Isabelle?"

Apparently, he'd gone a little insane when he decided to sign up for sibling duty. Or insane-er than he already was.

Whatever, Kira sounded like a girl's name so he already had an advantage there in that he'd flirt and be charming, if need be. Or he'd just take off and leave her to fend for herself.

Hey, no one said he was a nice person!

Kira would very much prefer the flirting, for the record! It was a liiittle awkward to stare at everyone to read their nametags, so she was glad to (hopefully) find the right person. "Hi! I think I'm supposed to talk to you?"

The boat had handwavily dropped him off early in the morning, and from just finding his way from the harbour to the school, Ichabod Crane had noticed a fair share of oddities on the island. He certainly hadn't expected a remote place like this to be quite so... foreign.

Wearing a nametag he now looked for a so called 'big sibling' named Alana. That sounded like a woman's name. He had no idea this school admitted female students, but from looking around the crowd she wasn't the only one.

Alana was indeed a woman -- though, dressed as she was in jeans and a sleveless top, she might not look much like the women Ichabod was used to. (And that was ignoring the wings neatly folded against her back.)

She read nametags until she found the right one. "Ichabod?" she asked the young man. "Hey. I'm Alana. Welcome to the island."

Vider had no idea how to pronounce her little sibling's name, but then, since coming here she'd realized some people had trouble with her own, so she wouldn't judge. She hadn't had the forethought to make a sign or anything, so she was wandering the crowd, peering at anyone she didn't recognize's nametag in hopes they would be a Jalian.

Jalian had brushed the sand off and scrubbed her face as best she could in the water. The burn left by her travel had faded, leaving her skin a bit paler than she was used to. Her hair was white now, too, and she ran through the math on the neg-entropy timeline and how close that call and been, and breathed a sigh of relief.

Near where she'd ended up, there was a large gathering of people, and she headed over there a bit warily. Then spent several minutes just listening, accustoming herself to the sound of spoken English, putting the language together in her head with the words she knew.

Andros picked up his nametag after a close call with the one for 'Anders,' though luckily he realized his error before peeling it off its backing, and stuck it to his shirt, then looked around for his 'big sibling,' whatever that might entail.

Anders still had little idea what was going on, but they'd told him to wait for a "big sibling" and so he did. He strolled around the space, keeping an eye open for an Eleanor. His own nametag was firmly affixed to the center front of his robe.

At least this time, Eleanor wasn't going to be frightened by the name of it. She still wished there was a better name than 'big sister,' but she liked that one rather more than 'little sister,' anyway. More empowering.

More importantly, her own big sibling had been essential to her settling in without having a prolonged panic attack, which meant it was only reasonable to return the favor and help one of the new students this time around.

Her name tag was fastened to one of the sundresses she'd bought in Bali. She spotted his easily enough, and offered a smile.

"Anders?" Eleanor asked. It said that on his nametag, so it was silly to ask, but somehow, it seemed odd to just ... presume. What if he'd swapped nametags with someone a few minutes ago, on a lark?

Four was running a little behind--he was busy striking the "Tobias Eaton" from his nametag and making sure it read "Four" instead.

So if anyone was looking for him, it might take some work.

It might, if the person looking for him was going around checking nametags. Crutches kind of made that hard, though. Instead, his big sib was standing in one place near the nametags and waving at the newbies. And occasionally calling "TOOOOOBEEEEEE! Toby Eaton! TOBIIIIIIIIIIIAS! YO! Where are you?"

For the record, he'd added "Joker" to his own nametag without crossing anything out.

Rapunzel was still clutching her hair to her chest as she looked around for someone who looked like they might be named Raven.

She was guessing they'd probably have dark hair, right? That seemed like a good start, what with the whole dark-bird-as-a-name thing. Maybe?

Oh, Rapunzel.

At least she'd managed to grab her own nametag and stuck it high on her shoulder so people would be able to see it over her hair if she was holding it, as she was now.

Loki took a seat, peering around for anyone with a nametag of 'Felicity' because he was starting to be old hat at these days. He let Ikol go to see if he could spot her as well.

Though he was relatively certain that the bird would end up eating instead.

Celia had no idea what had possessed her to do this -- as though she was qualified to tell anyone a damn thing about this island.

But she'd still dutifully donned her nametag and was peering around for someone wearing one that said 'Soren.' It was tricky, since she didn't know if that was a boy's name or a girl's, but she was still doing her best.

Alex put on her nametag and started to walk around, trying not to appear so awkward as she scanned over the different nametags to find the person who was going to be her sibling.

Sia had signed up for this before she knew how terrible her week was going to be, but she was doing her absolute best to put all that past her... at least until she met this Nathan person. As much as she hated the nametags, she even put one on, and even added a pronunciation of her name because she knew how that went by now.

Daphne was very cheerful as she wandered the picnic. She was enjoying being social with everyone, but she was really looking for someone that had a name tag with the name of "Andros" on it. She'd never been a big sibling to anyone before and was really looking forward to the experience.
