Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

With all the rain that had blown through earlier in the week, the school administration had been worried that welcome picnic day would be wet and gloomy. Thankfully, it was sunny, warm, and beautiful outside, and everything had been set up just in time for the shuttle of new folks to arrive. There was a buffet table of food and drinks waiting, along with the list of Big and Little Siblings, the list of roommates, and more name tags than they'd probably need for three picnics.

Also, there wasn't a single flower out on the lawn after last weekend. Just saying.

With everything in place, it looked like it was time for the first summer term to begin!

[OCD up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Having learned a bit from the girl who was supposed to orient her here, Jalian checked and saw that her name did indeed appear on the room listing. "Felicity," she read the name of her assigned roommate, and looked around for her.

"Um, hi." She would have been more surprised by Jalian's appearance if she hadn't seen the pony wandering around. "I'm Felicity."

"Jalian." Jalian looked Felicity over and nodded. She seemed a bit soft, but Jalian supposed that was to be expected. "We are to room together, I think."

Oh good, now she knew how to pronounce the name. "Looks like it. Don't worry, I'm an easy roommate. You won't even know I'm there."

Aside from the massive amounts of tech that would probably be on her side of the room.

"I will know," Jalian assured her. You'd have to forgive her, Felicity; she hadn't quite managed colloquialisms in English yet. "You are not a huntress," she noted. "What do you do?"

"I, uh, don't do much of anything." Oh that sounded really impressive. "I know a lot about computers..."

"A technician!" Jalian nodded and smiled, realizing she'd have to relearn all the new (old) systems they would have here. "I am good with Corvichi computers, but I don't know the ones you will have here."

"Well I have a Mac." Also didn't sound impressive compared to whatever a Corvichi computer was. "Um, where are you from exactly?"

"The forests by the ocean of the North Coast," Jalian answered, having already practiced with her "big sister". "What is a Mac?"

She had no idea where North Coast was. Unless they were directions...but then she'd need to know which coast to get an understanding of where it would be.

How about she answered the question she knew the answer to. "It's a computer system. Owned by Apple. Their symbol is an apple."

Surely everybody knew this.

Jalian nodded. She knew it now! "How does it work?"

Clearly she had to go for the simple questions first.

"Well, I mean, that's kind of a pretty big question," she said. "A really big, complicated question that I would probably have to answer in essay form."

"Later, then," Jalian suggested, only slightly disappointed. She definitely wanted to get started learning these things, but she supposed a feast wasn't the time.
