Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Although the summer had been record-breakingly hot, the weather outside today was actually kind of pleasant. There was a cool breeze blowing across the lawn, making the smells of the buffet wander, and hopefully enticing people to come over to the school and welcome all the new folks.

The blue and gold tables and chairs had been set out as usual, along with nametags and the lists of Big and Little Siblings, and rooms and roommates for the new students. Assuming the shuttle arrived with all of the students and teachers in one piece, everything was set for the picnic to begin!

[OCD is up, have at it! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Jess survived the poorly-driven shuttle. Now she just had to clear the picnic and she was home free.... To, you know, spend time with all of these people she'd have to know for a while. Dammit.

Well, she still needed to get her bearings in this place, which meant that having the school assign a big sibling that she could pepper with questions was actually a good thing. She could get some answers as to just what the hell was going around here both for her personal use as well as her eventually report back to SHIELD.

With that in mind, she made sure her name tag was displayed prominently on her shirt and started looking for a... uh, a Dae... um... Jessica had no idea what that name was. Well, at least things were starting off simple.

Dany, however, freshly-arrived from Rome though she was, had thought to find a nametag and check the list for any adoptive siblings she may have earned.

"Jessica?" she asked, approaching tentatively as soon as she could see the other girl's name on her shirt. Behind her trailed three dragons the size of small dogs.

In case Jessica had not yet fully accepted that this place was...special, that would probably help.

Suddenly, the mysteries of Dany's name weren't very important.

"Yeah. Hi. Dae....person?" Jessica pointed to the dragons. "Are those what I think they are?"

After a full summer here, Sia felt confident that she could guide someone through the ins and outs of this place now. So as much as she hated the nametag, she put it on to help her little sibling find her in case he spotted her first, and kept a lookout for... well, the boy she was going to ask what he preferred to be called before referring to him by name.

It didn't take Stiles long to find Sia considering he was a teenage boy and would be crazy not to pass up an opportunity to glance at chests when there was a clear excuse for it. He thought he was being stealthy about it but...yeah, nothing about Stiles was stealthy.

This included the awkward way he sidled up to Sia when he spotted her nametag. Just be glad he didn't trip over his own feet. "Um, hi. I'm Stiles. Stilinski."

Believe it or not, Sia was very glad for that!

"Stiles," she repeated, offering a small smile. "I'm Marasiah. Welcome to town." Weird as it was.

Olive had written her name on a tag, stuck it firmly to her chest -- much like her A, actually, but this was...you know, normal -- and she'd even drawn a little olive on the tag itself, too.

She thought she was cute, sometimes.

She looked around for someone who looked like a Rilla. She had no idea what a Rilla would look like, though, because wow people here were named weird things.

A sixteen-year-old girl in a cute white hat (http://www.indiana.edu/~sagecoll/data/modules/albums/pages_admin/albums_getimage.php?image=Hats/image1.jpg) and a dress out of a magazine a hundred years ago, was holding the hands of a baby as he tried to walk over. "Miss Penderghast?" Rilla enquired.

"Holy big hat alert," Olive said, almost under her breath, and...wow, holy Laura Ashley outfit alert.

Okay wait, holy baby -- okay yeah that was growing kind of thin. Olive agreed.

"Um. Call me Olive," she replied, giving an uncomfortable wave. "Are you Rilla? Is that your baby?"

Sorry. Rude.

Dave had been a little nervous since he received his sibling assignment. He now had a young, impressionable mind to shape into a form that could accept Fandom as a concept. And he knew from experience that doing that could be tough. He had no real idea how to deal with a sibling who reacted the way he reacted. You know, with outright denial for two weeks.

Was it too much to hope that Charles Villette was from a strange world? But not too strange, hopefully.

[identity profile] notyetplatypus.livejournal.com 2012-08-25 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Sadly, Dave would have to be disappointed. Unless he thought that Las Vegas was strange, which a lot of people would.

Chaz was walking around with a name tag and a plate already loaded with food.

Re: Meet Your Big/Little Sibling [Fall 2012]

[identity profile] iwishiwasbig.livejournal.com 2012-08-25 02:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly, that was close enough.

Dave had kept an eye out for name tags, so he was able to shout out, "Charles?" and hurry over as soon as he saw Chaz's tag.

Karla had done the big sister thing enough times now to have a routine in place for it. So here she was, basket of 'welcome to Fandom' sundries on her arm, a dinosaur on her shoulder, and a welcome grin on her face.

...If the grin was kind of on the wicked side, it was only to be expected. This was newbie day, after all.

Well, Cade wasn't going to smile back or anything, even if he noted that she wasn't ugly either.

In fact, all of the girls here were pretty. One plus to this rock.

"I had to get here on a karking bus," he said. "With wheels." He looked cranky.

Mother Night. He sounded just like Ben bitching about trains. Not that either of them realized that yet.

"If you're bitching about the bus, best of luck with dealing with the rest of the island," Karla said, lips twitching. "That's probably one of the most normal aspects there are."

She held out her hand, the one not encumbered by the basket. "I'm Karla, your school-appointed big sib. Welcome to Fandom. What's wrong with wheels?"

After waking up on a beach this morning with Naga standing guard over her, Korra had been able to determine exactly two things about this place, one, it wasn't the South Pole, and two, it was warm enough not to need to wear her parka, beyond that she had no idea where she was.

Luckily, Naga's nose and empty belly had led them to this gathering of people.

She wasn't wearing one of the tags with unrecognisable writing (which now made three things she knew about this place, four if you counted how pale most of the people looked), but she did have a polar bear dog standing beside her, so she was kind of sticking out of the crowd.

Toby had been keeping a mental 'ear', of sorts, open in hopes of tracking down his school-assigned sibling.

And lo and behold, it ended up being the girl with the big... dog... bear... thing.

"Um," he said, eyeing said creature a little warily. "Korra?"

Jackson was already having a strange morning, and he hadn't even met any of the actual Fandom residents yet – well, not anyone who wasn't as new as him. And now they wanted him to play the wide-eyed newbie to some random kid?

He put a name tag on his lapel but didn't look too happy about it.

Not just any random kid, either!

"Jaaaaackson!"

Nope. That one that was standing up on one of the tables, yelling Jackson's name at the top of his lungs.

"Calling JAAAAACKSON!"

... Sorry, man.

This place definitely wasn't Iowa, that was for sure. And that, Jim thought, was a damn good thing. It meant no farms and no Frank.

Still, everything felt...a little slow here to him. Culture shock and time differences weren't really bothering him right now. Right now, he was walking around, eating an apple and trying to look for someone who might be his big sibling.

He'd ignored the nametags so he might be a little difficult to find.

After her experience with Stannis, Juliet felt like she was an expert big sibling. She had a gift basket in hand -- loaded with a Fandom High t-shirt, notepad and pen, prepaid cell phone, condoms, cookies, and a pound of coffee from the Perk -- as she wandered into the scrum of new students.

Of course, it would be a little easier if her sibling wore his name tag. She looked the tiniest bit frazzled by the time she ended up near Jim.

"I can't find my little sibling" she pouted in his general direction. "You look new. Do you know James Kirk?"

The shuttle had been an experience that she thought she could have done without. Too fast, too dangerous, for her. The waiting and talking before had been enough to distract her from the oddity of being on her own but now, as she looked for her assigned sibling, a Dorothy, Yeul was back to wondering how Caius was, without her.

It was strange.

Still, that was no reason to ruin the day for herself, so she wrote her name, just her first name, Yeul, on a name tag and stuck it on herself and kept her expression serene. She was determined to enjoy this.

It was a good thing Yeul had a nametag, because Ace had taken one look at the pre-printed one that said Dorothy and foregone it entirely, this time. Her right name was plastered -- well, embroidered -- all over the back of her jacket; she didn't need an ID with the wrong one slapped on the front.

She was looking for a tag, but it wasn't that she noticed first. "Oooh, wicked hair. Is that real or coloured?"
