Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Although the summer had been record-breakingly hot, the weather outside today was actually kind of pleasant. There was a cool breeze blowing across the lawn, making the smells of the buffet wander, and hopefully enticing people to come over to the school and welcome all the new folks.

The blue and gold tables and chairs had been set out as usual, along with nametags and the lists of Big and Little Siblings, and rooms and roommates for the new students. Assuming the shuttle arrived with all of the students and teachers in one piece, everything was set for the picnic to begin!

[OCD is up, have at it! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Jaime was there, armored and clad in the white cloak of the Kingsguard. Though, in all honesty, it still had a few splotches of blue and red from the popsicle rain at the last picnic.

It was better than shit and blood, Jaime supposed. He was a cheerful man like that, after all.

Jess survived the poorly-driven shuttle. Now she just had to clear the picnic and she was home free.... To, you know, spend time with all of these people she'd have to know for a while. Dammit.

Well, she still needed to get her bearings in this place, which meant that having the school assign a big sibling that she could pepper with questions was actually a good thing. She could get some answers as to just what the hell was going around here both for her personal use as well as her eventually report back to SHIELD.

With that in mind, she made sure her name tag was displayed prominently on her shirt and started looking for a... uh, a Dae... um... Jessica had no idea what that name was. Well, at least things were starting off simple.

Shuttle? Done. Big sister? Met. Roommate? Coming up. And probably awkward. Jessica hadn't had any kind of a roommate since... well, ever. The closest she ever came was in Peter's memories when Gwen was staying with him and Aunt May.

A big locked chest where she stored her costume and SHIELD uniform would probably be a little obvious, wouldn't it? Dammit. Anyway. Roomie. Hopefully a dim, unquestioning roomie. With no romantic interest in girls. Look, if she was going to be wishing for a best case scenario, she was going to make everything as simple for her as possible.

Now she just had to figure out what kind of name "Atton" was and what one of those might look like.

After a full summer here, Sia felt confident that she could guide someone through the ins and outs of this place now. So as much as she hated the nametag, she put it on to help her little sibling find her in case he spotted her first, and kept a lookout for... well, the boy she was going to ask what he preferred to be called before referring to him by name.

Dany, however, freshly-arrived from Rome though she was, had thought to find a nametag and check the list for any adoptive siblings she may have earned.

"Jessica?" she asked, approaching tentatively as soon as she could see the other girl's name on her shirt. Behind her trailed three dragons the size of small dogs.

In case Jessica had not yet fully accepted that this place was...special, that would probably help.

It was a little strange to be back here after a long time (for her) of thinking she'd had her last picnic ever, but Jaina was sort of okay with that. Here, strange was sort of familiar.

She was off to the side a bit, out of the way, and keeping a lookout for familiar faces. Or faces that might passingly be familiar because they might be related to her and she hadn't met them yet. You never knew.

Olive had written her name on a tag, stuck it firmly to her chest -- much like her A, actually, but this was...you know, normal -- and she'd even drawn a little olive on the tag itself, too.

She thought she was cute, sometimes.

She looked around for someone who looked like a Rilla. She had no idea what a Rilla would look like, though, because wow people here were named weird things.

Dave had been a little nervous since he received his sibling assignment. He now had a young, impressionable mind to shape into a form that could accept Fandom as a concept. And he knew from experience that doing that could be tough. He had no real idea how to deal with a sibling who reacted the way he reacted. You know, with outright denial for two weeks.

Was it too much to hope that Charles Villette was from a strange world? But not too strange, hopefully.

Okay. Okay, Karolina was a girl's name -- that didn't look like it was necessarily a trend on this sheet of roommates, so Olive was kind of happy about that -- and also? Kind of a normal name. More normal than like, half the people she'd met so far, anyway.

So she looked around, trying to seem more confident than she was like, at all.

Suddenly, the mysteries of Dany's name weren't very important.

"Yeah. Hi. Dae....person?" Jessica pointed to the dragons. "Are those what I think they are?"

Karla had done the big sister thing enough times now to have a routine in place for it. So here she was, basket of 'welcome to Fandom' sundries on her arm, a dinosaur on her shoulder, and a welcome grin on her face.

...If the grin was kind of on the wicked side, it was only to be expected. This was newbie day, after all.

"Daenerys," she said with a smile. "Please call me Dany -- it's easier. And they're dragons, so if that's what you think they are...."

And once again, the school was allowing Jaye to teach and to be a teaching buddy. It was like they never learned or something.

She looked innocuous enough, though, nursing a soda and people-watching in case anyone looked interesting. Maybe something would top the (shudder) talking pony.

It was a new school year, and Zayne had both a successful mission and a successful haircut under his belt and atop his head, respectively. He knew he'd have to leave the picnic a little early in case anyone needed to get an apartment, but he still always liked showing up and seeing if he could spot any Jedi. Old habits died hard.

"I thought my teaching buddy's name looked kind of familiar," Zayne said, approaching Jaina. "Making it a long visit this time?"

"Daea... Yeah, okay, Dany. Are they real?" Jessica asked. "Are they going to eat me? Please say no, because that would be a terrible first day at a new school. Eaten by dragons."

"At least this term," she said with a little smile, and tilted her head. "New semester, new hair?"

"They won't eat you." That was the important one -- she needed to get that out before anything else. "I promise. Because yes, that would be the very worst sort of first day, I think. But they're real, and friendly." She shrugged, and sort of sheepishly added, "Welcome to Fandom."

"It was time," Zayne said. "Or so my mother and sisters told me over and over last time I was on Phaeda. It was either do it now or suffer the consequences."

"Thanks. Does everyone here have dragons and nobody told me about this before?" Jessica asked. "And sorry to keep focusing on them. I've just never met anyone with dragons before."

"They're rare where I'm from, as well," Dany offered. "And...to the best of my knowledge, I am the only one with dragons here, but I suppose that could have changed. I was absent for the summer."
