Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Although the summer had been record-breakingly hot, the weather outside today was actually kind of pleasant. There was a cool breeze blowing across the lawn, making the smells of the buffet wander, and hopefully enticing people to come over to the school and welcome all the new folks.

The blue and gold tables and chairs had been set out as usual, along with nametags and the lists of Big and Little Siblings, and rooms and roommates for the new students. Assuming the shuttle arrived with all of the students and teachers in one piece, everything was set for the picnic to begin!

[OCD is up, have at it! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Not just any random kid, either!

"Jaaaaackson!"

Nope. That one that was standing up on one of the tables, yelling Jackson's name at the top of his lungs.

"Calling JAAAAACKSON!"

... Sorry, man.
nomoresportscars: ([neu-] You suck.)

"... You have got to be kidding me."

But evidently, he wasn't. For a second, Jackson thought about ignoring him, but then he decided the kid probably wouldn't stop shouting before he showed himself. He already seemed like enough of a freak for that.

So, Jackson walked closer to the table, looking up.

"I'm here. Stop screaming."
myownface: (O Rly?)

"Oh, sweet." Sparkle shot Jackson a cocky grin, and then jumped down from the table, offering him a handshake. "Sparkle. Your big brother, I guess? Apparently the administration trusts me with a newbie."

He was about as shocked as you were.
nomoresportscars: ([neu-] Really? Is that your answer?)

Re: Meet Your Big/Little Sibling [Fall 2012]

[personal profile] nomoresportscars 2012-08-25 01:07 pm (UTC)(link)
The only reason that Jackson didn't ignore his hand was that he was too busy boggling at all the rest. His handshake, though firm, was still really pretty distracted.

"Sparkle?"

Was that even a name?
myownface: (Smirky)

Re: Meet Your Big/Little Sibling [Fall 2012]

[personal profile] myownface 2012-08-25 01:13 pm (UTC)(link)
It was now, Jacky!

"Sparks for short, if you need to," Sparkle replied with a shrug, as if there was nothing weird about his name, thank YOU very much, and really, it was a great name, you shut your face. "Like after that pop singer who sang about the sandcastles and going to the mall, okay?"

After party sparklers. Sparkle was sensing that 'are you shitting me' vibe, and was just going to counter with taller tales about all the things that didn't matter. Because he could.
nomoresportscars: ([neu-] Mmm nope.)

Re: Meet Your Big/Little Sibling [Fall 2012]

[personal profile] nomoresportscars 2012-08-25 01:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"Uh huh," said Jackson, who really honestly did not give a crap about why this guy was called what he was called. (He would actually even gone a bit further and stated he did not care about what this guy was called in the first place.) "So, you're supposed to... guide me on my very special journey into being a student at Fandom High?"

Feel the sarcasm, Sparkle!
myownface: (Oh Yeah?)

Re: Meet Your Big/Little Sibling [Fall 2012]

[personal profile] myownface 2012-08-25 01:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, Sparkle could feel it! He was kind of sponging it up and saving it for later. One never knew when a bit of spare sarcasm could come in handy, right?

Maybe?

"Something like that," he replied with a shrug. "I'm sure all I'm really supposed to do is like warn you about the gremlins and tell you a bunch of shit you won't believe anyhow until the first time you turn into a pony or it rains dildos from the sky or something, though."

Charming.
nomoresportscars: ([neu-] You fell on your head.)

Re: Meet Your Big/Little Sibling [Fall 2012]

[personal profile] nomoresportscars 2012-08-25 01:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Jackson tilted his head with a rather sarcastic expression that said he was judging Sparkle (on top of everything else) for not at least coming up with something believable.

"Well I'm sure that's all stuff I can learn just fine on my own."
myownface: (Default)

Re: Meet Your Big/Little Sibling [Fall 2012]

[personal profile] myownface 2012-08-25 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm sure you can," Sparkle replied, giving Jackson a look up and down that possibly lingered for a second or two longer on 'down' than was strictly necessary, before straightening up and grinning brilliantly all the same. "But I'm gonna tell you anyway. Because that's my job, and I'm not going to let some fresh-off-the-boat kid take that away from me."

Look, they trusted him. With a newbie. Apparently they thought he wasn't going to accidentally light Jackson on fire, so he was going to take this job seriously.

"Grab a seat, Jacko?"
nomoresportscars: ([neu-] Well that was a timewaster.)

Re: Meet Your Big/Little Sibling [Fall 2012]

[personal profile] nomoresportscars 2012-08-25 02:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"Jackson."

That was going to become a theme today.

Also, he was not interested in taking a seat at this particular moment, though he did give Sparkle an expectant look.
myownface: (Smoke)

Re: Meet Your Big/Little Sibling [Fall 2012]

[personal profile] myownface 2012-08-25 02:18 pm (UTC)(link)
And Sparkle gave Jackson that look right back, holding it for a moment before sighing and shrugging. Whatever.

"Okay, so, you're on an island full of freaks, which I'm sure you've figured out by now considering the way you keep like looking at me. Maybe you even got told already that the island is a bit of a freak, too. Weird shit that goes on? But I guess it's only weird if you're not from a weird place, too."

A beat.

"Are you from a weird place?"

Because he'd totally know it was weird if he'd lived there his whole life. Sparkle's logic was completely sound.
nomoresportscars: ([neu-] Sassing at you.)

Re: Meet Your Big/Little Sibling [Fall 2012]

[personal profile] nomoresportscars 2012-08-25 02:27 pm (UTC)(link)
And Jackson was yet to really find out about the werewolves back home, so...

"No," he said, without much of a change in his expression. This boy's babbling wasn't making much sense. "But I'm guessing you are."
myownface: (O Rly?)

Re: Meet Your Big/Little Sibling [Fall 2012]

[personal profile] myownface 2012-08-25 02:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"Toronto," Sparkle replied with a shrug. "Which is only weird if you ask other Canadians. Probably."

Sparkle hadn't really met many Canadians who... weren't from Toronto. Even here on the island. Weird.

"So, you know, we don't get the people who can fly or the ones with blue skin or crazy old bitches with magic wands who rewind time so that they can take over the school. Mostly in Toronto there are just businessmen and muggers and bums."
nomoresportscars: ([neu+] Smarter than you.)

Re: Meet Your Big/Little Sibling [Fall 2012]

[personal profile] nomoresportscars 2012-08-25 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"Really," Jackson said, not even bothering with making it a question. "Just out of curiosity, is there anything actually useful you'd like to tell me, or am I just supposed to listen to you spouting nonsense all day?"

Oh, Jackson. You'll learn.
myownface: (Throwin' Crap.)

Re: Meet Your Big/Little Sibling [Fall 2012]

[personal profile] myownface 2012-08-25 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, he would. And that knowledge was filling Sparkle with so much glee.

So much.

"Gremlins make you hallucinate when they bite you, the deer really are that funky shade of green, it's okay to trust the macaroni in the lunchroom no matter what weird colours it might be, and get yourself a sports bra."

Helpful bits of information, all!

"I mean, unless you already have one. I won't judge you if you do."
nomoresportscars: ([neu-] Mmm nope.)

Re: Meet Your Big/Little Sibling [Fall 2012]

[personal profile] nomoresportscars 2012-08-25 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, possibly not a sports bra, but Lydia had been in the general vicinity of his luggage before he'd left...

Jackson rolled his eyes. "Oh good, more useless babbling."
myownface: (Grin!)

Re: Meet Your Big/Little Sibling [Fall 2012]

[personal profile] myownface 2012-08-25 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hey, you can ignore me if you want," Sparkle laughed, "but don't say I didn't tell you so when you wake up someday with a nice set of tits or something."

Still so charming.

"You want me to point you to the bar that doesn't card or something, instead? What's your definition of useful, here, Jacky? Throw me a bone, pal."
nomoresportscars: ([neu-] Well that was a timewaster.)

Re: Meet Your Big/Little Sibling [Fall 2012]

[personal profile] nomoresportscars 2012-08-25 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, Jackson had one question, though he wasn't putting much hope in Sparkle being able to answer that.

"Is there a sports team?" A beat. "Assuming you haven't been too busy with eyeliner to notice."
myownface: (Intense)

Re: Meet Your Big/Little Sibling [Fall 2012]

[personal profile] myownface 2012-08-25 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"Trust me, if there was a sports team around here, I would put down my eyeliner long enough to notice," Sparkle countered.

A beat.

"There might be a cheer squad, but hell if I know who they're supposed to be cheering for."

If there was a football team or something, he'd so try out for the cheer squad. Better view of the guys on the field. But, alas.
nomoresportscars: ([neu-] Does not compute.)

Re: Meet Your Big/Little Sibling [Fall 2012]

[personal profile] nomoresportscars 2012-08-25 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"So are you saying there's no team here?" Jackson asked. Actually sounding kind of vaguely worried about that. Or maybe offended.

"Lacrosse, basketball, football?"

Those were definitely in descending order of importance.

"Swim team?"
myownface: (Mmmhmm.)

Re: Meet Your Big/Little Sibling [Fall 2012]

[personal profile] myownface 2012-08-25 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"Uh... there's a pool in the dorms?"

That wasn't quite the same thing, no.

"But yeah... no. I think they do a club thing in the fall, though. So, I dunno. Maybe you can give someone the idea to do that? Not sure who Fandom would play against, though."
nomoresportscars: ([neu-] Suspicious.)

Re: Meet Your Big/Little Sibling [Fall 2012]

[personal profile] nomoresportscars 2012-08-25 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"Just about anyone in Maryland?" suggested Jackson. Frowning. Because this was the first thing Sparkle had said that he was actually buying (because he'd been just that pessimistic about coming here), not that he liked it. "What kind of a backwards school is this?"
myownface: (Oh right.)

Re: Meet Your Big/Little Sibling [Fall 2012]

[personal profile] myownface 2012-08-25 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"I dunno," Sparkle replied with a shrug. "I figured it was just an American boarding school thing."

Right back to being helpful!
nomoresportscars: ([neu+] Something you need?)

[personal profile] nomoresportscars 2012-08-25 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
A person with an interest in others might have asked whether that meant Sparkle wasn't American. But Jackson wasn't that person.

"Of course," he said. "So, are we done here?"

He was the most polite ever.
myownface: (Smoke)

[personal profile] myownface 2012-08-25 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, Sparkle had gone off on his rant about the bums in Toronto earlier. If Jackson couldn't figure it out from there, he was a lost cause.

"Guess we are," Sparkle replied with a shrug. "If you do end up needing anything else, you can come grovel at me in room 209, anyhow. I can throw some more, you know, nonsense at you."

And maybe he'd even be nice and keep telling the truth, next time!
