After kicking out everyone who wasn't a library aide, a Librarian, or incipient club member, Parker hung a sign on the outside door:

INVESTIGATOR'S CLUB MEETING
PRIVATE

Then adjourned to the counter, where the brownies, drinks, cookies, and fudge were.

Hopefully, more than just Marty, Zero, Janet and the Souled Wonder were going to show.

Logan slumped into the library looking like he'd been told he only had until midnight to live.

Angel immediately frowned. "What's he doing here?"

Logan looked over at Angel. "Shouldn't that be my question?"

"I asked you first."

"Yeah, but you're evil," Logan said.

"Out of curiosity," Angel asked, "are you ever gonna change that record or should I grab some headphones to tune you out?"

Logan flipped Angel an obscene hand gestured and went to talk to Rory.

Angel immediately turned to Parker. "I don't want him here."

Oh, for the love of squall. Children, let's play nice.

"I am being nice," Angel said. "Mean is when I express the exact same statement only by throwing people."

"Gimme a reason. A *good* reason. Not just that he doesn't like you." Parker shrugged. "Of anyone here, he's now got as good an idea of evil as he needs. What's your objection?"

Rory looked up and waved. "You look sad. Have a cookie."

Logan signed in and came back with three cookies. He stared at them, then sat down at a table and dropped his head on it. "Spider's gonna kill me," he muttered into the wood.

Rory reached over and rubbed his back. "Why now? The journalism deadline?"

"Midnight!" he said, throwing up his hands, but not lifting his head off the table. "I gotta fake something. And fast!"

"No, you don't," Rory said reasonably, stroking his hair. "Bet you anything it's a mistake. And even if it's not, we can take it to the principal if he tries to fail us at all, since we had no prior notice to the change in deadline and weren't given time to prepare." She broke off a bit of one of his cookies and popped it into her mouth.

Logan lifted his head. "Today wasn't the original deadline?" he asked.

Rory sighed, and opened up the datebook she had sitting next to her on the desk. "No. See? The 16th. We're safe."

Logan put both hands on her face and kissed her deeply.

Rory happily submitted to the kiss, thinking that perhaps now was not the time to point out that if Logan come to class more often or paid attention while he was there, he would know this.

Xander wanders over, possibly carrying more cookies than any one person should have. Possibly.

"Sure hope so! I just got my interview done yesterday; no way that deadline can be right for turning in the paper."

Rory self consciously broke away from Logan, blushing. "Yeah, I'm thinking this is like that 400 pages thing that happened when we got this assignment."

"Hey, Xander," said Jenny, staring bemusedly at his plate of cookies. Some things? Never changed.
