Investigator's Club, the Library -- NFB

After kicking out everyone who wasn't a library aide, a Librarian, or incipient club member, Parker hung a sign on the outside door:

INVESTIGATOR'S CLUB MEETING
PRIVATE

Then adjourned to the counter, where the brownies, drinks, cookies, and fudge were.

Hopefully, more than just Marty, Zero, Janet and the Souled Wonder were going to show.

Rory reached over and rubbed his back. "Why now? The journalism deadline?"

"Midnight!" he said, throwing up his hands, but not lifting his head off the table. "I gotta fake something. And fast!"

"No, you don't," Rory said reasonably, stroking his hair. "Bet you anything it's a mistake. And even if it's not, we can take it to the principal if he tries to fail us at all, since we had no prior notice to the change in deadline and weren't given time to prepare." She broke off a bit of one of his cookies and popped it into her mouth.

Logan lifted his head. "Today wasn't the original deadline?" he asked.

Rory sighed, and opened up the datebook she had sitting next to her on the desk. "No. See? The 16th. We're safe."

Logan put both hands on her face and kissed her deeply.

Rory happily submitted to the kiss, thinking that perhaps now was not the time to point out that if Logan come to class more often or paid attention while he was there, he would know this.

Xander wanders over, possibly carrying more cookies than any one person should have. Possibly.

"Sure hope so! I just got my interview done yesterday; no way that deadline can be right for turning in the paper."

Rory self consciously broke away from Logan, blushing. "Yeah, I'm thinking this is like that 400 pages thing that happened when we got this assignment."

"Hey, Xander," said Jenny, staring bemusedly at his plate of cookies. Some things? Never changed.

"Hey." Noticing her stare, he coughed a little guiltily and held out teh plate. "Uh. Cookie? See, this would be me being gentlemanly, not me hogging all the snacks. Because I would never do that."

Logan flopped down in the chair near Rory again. "Hey Xander," he said with a nod.

"Hey." Xander glanced over towards the place where Logan currently wasn't and shook his head. "Yuh-huh. That's gotta be...interesting for you two. Having him here."

"Yeah," Logan said. "Not something I'm in favor of."

Rory nodded. "Yeah. But then again, I didn't exactly want to have him land on me last night, either. So I'm just ignoring him for the time being."

Xander nodded. "Yeah, been there, done that. Can't say it was a picnic having him around when Willow we stuck his soul back on the first time, after the things he'd done."

"I still don't see how this makes him better," Rory grumbled. "All it gives him is a conscience. He could still do it all again. He'd just feel bad for it."

Xander raised a hand. "Hey, you won't catch me throwing him a welcome back pyjama party any time soon. I've been in the Angel is trouble whether he has a soul or not camp from Day 1." He shrugs. "But when he's Angel, he does try to help, or at least he tried to help Buffy, which usually meant the rest of us got the fringe benefits."

Logan looked at Xander. "You knew him before? With the soul?"

Xander nodded. "Can't be sure we got here from the same exact Sunnydale, but the version I knew had a soul when we met him. And then he kind of... misplaced it. In unpretty ways."

"So how likely is he to misplace it again?" Rory asked, quirking a brow.

"I don't even know how it happened this time," Xander said. "The curse is supposed to be about true happiness, which back in Sunnydale apparently meant sleeping with one of my best friends, not that there wasn't a time when I would've agreed with that definition. We tried to stick it back on him, she sent him to hell before we knew if it took, and when he came back, we found out it did. How he got from there to the guy who kept putting out his Morleys on my bedspread, I got no idea."

Rory nodded thoughtfully. "So we just have to make sure he has no sex. Easy."

She was about to say more when Bridge bounced up to her side.

"Hey, Rory?" Bridge says. "Uh, there's something I think you should know. About Angel."

Jenny laughed. "Of course you wouldn't," she said, taking a cookie. "Thanks."

Buffy and Willow would have just taken the cookies off the plate while he protested, so no, Xander definitely never hogged all the snacks.
