BWI Airport, Portalocity Lounge, Friday Morning [12/30]

Anakin still thought that getting sent off to school at some place he'd never heard of (and he'd been trying to memorize star maps practically since he was old enough to read) was one of Uncle Luke's stranger decisions. He'd graduated from the Academy, he wasn't a little kid any more, but as his uncle's apprentice he didn't have much room to argue. He'd much rather have been back in the thick of things if it were up to him, but it wasn't and Luke had sent him here, so he'd trust Luke's judgment even if he didn't understand it. Sending him to Dantooine with Aunt Mara had been weird at the time, too, and turned out to be a valuable learning experience.

The large Fandom High banner in the Portalocity lounge left little doubt that he was in the right place. With a tiny sigh, Anakin set his single bag down on the floor, tugged at the hem of his tunic. and brushed his fingertips against the hilt of the lightsaber hanging from his belt. That, at least, was something familiar in a completely unfamiliar environment.

He never liked waiting around for things to happen, but since he couldn't be home helping the Jedi with the war effort waiting for the shuttle to show up was the only thing to do right now. Well, that and finding out what the other new students would be like, and he supposed that part would happen soon enough.

Blinded by a radioactive waste, Matt Murdock had been given many abilities. Enhanced hearing, olfactory and taste being most of them. A unique echolocation ability to know what objects were around him was another.

However that still wouldn't help him find a lounge for Fandom High and had to resort to asking a flight attendent for assistance.

Thanking the flight attendent, Matt adjusted his sunglasses, unfolded his cane and then went through the pretense of using it as he entered the lounge. "Anyone else here for Fandom High?" he called out.

"Me," Anakin called back. He took note of the cane, but didn't comment on it; even if he was curious he had Leia Organa Solo for a mother and knew better than to ask tactless questions. "Another new student?"

"Hey, yeah," Jim said, by way of greeting as he pushed off the wall and approached the kid with the cane. "Me and a few others here, at least. So you're in the right place, unless they up and moved the lounge since the last time I was here."

Which was entirely possible.

"I'm Jim."

And the little pink blob on his shoulder was Morph, but Jim didn't want to wake the little guy up just yet. He was pretty tuckered out after the trip here from Montressor.

Britta let out a little scoff. "Me," she said, with a little roll of her eyes. "Unfortunately."

She thought of not bothering to say anything, but it was going to be a long year and a half if she didn't start making some friends to make things interesting, though she could always try to drop out again.

Hey, Jim had seen this place before. Okay, so it had been a few months ago, before he'd headed back home for a semester, but it was still kind of crazy that he was standing here again.

His surfer was propped up against the wall beside him, he had a bag slung over his shoulder, and there was a little pink blob sitting on his other shoulder, napping while Jim looked around at the new faces.

Yeah, he kind of missed boarding school.

Everyone in this airport terminal was so overwhelmingly human so far. For a boy who'd grown up on Coruscant and spent huge chunks of his childhood raised by droids, it was a lot like stepping into a monochrome world. (And a low-tech one at that.)

So it was both the surfer and the napping pink blob that drew Anakin over out of curiosity.

"Hi," he told Jim, attention already drawn to the surfer. "What is that thing?"

The pink blob was mostly what caught Dorothy's eye, and she peeked over to see what exactly it was. Of course, to her dismay, a bark came from her wicker basket and she raised a finger to her lips and shushed little Toto.

"Sorry," she apologized to Jim, looking just a little embarrassed. "I think he's restless from the trip. It's been a long way since Kansas."

Electroclash was here. She was not glad to be here, but she was here, uniform and all, a few bags at her feet and a sour look on her face. So far, she was not impressed with any of this.

She lit up a cigarette, prepared to glare at anyone who told her to put it out.

Anakin wrinkled his nose slightly at the smoke, but he'd smelled worse in the Coruscant undercity, among other places. She didn't strike him as a student, and he offered her a careful nod.

Stacey was not a light packer, and some of her things had even been sent ahead. There were a few pieces of luggage at her feet, and while she was keeping a close eye on them (she was from New York, crime was a thing there), she was also checking out the people here, and maybe trying to gauge the boy situation.

Anakin sort of glanced her way, more interested in the suitcases than anything else, really. That was a lot of stuff.

"Are you going to need help with those?"

If he couldn't do anything heroic, he might as well do something useful.

Darcy had a suitcase, a lollipop, and a new iPod. She was sitting on one, licking the other, and listening to the third through one headphone. There was some definite humming along.

Britta supposed things could be worse. A lot worse, actually, and at least the school took advantage of public transportation, which probably helped slow down the inevitability of the gaping hole in the Ozone layer, a little. And the school was considerably closer to New York, and it would probably be pretty easy to ditch classes and go up there, because everyone knew that was the place to be.

For right now, though, Britta was just going to sit off to the side a little, with her slim pickings of hastily and poorly packed suitcases, her leather jacket, and a pretty affected attitude of not caring, though anyone even remotely perceptive would be able to tell she was dying to talk to someone under that veneer of apathy.

Oh, hey. She kind of reminded Jim of himself, the first time he'd come to this place.

Or, at least, of his attitude. He put a little smile on as he made his way over to the so-very-apathetic girl, Morph still dozing on his shoulder.

Loki was not pleased to be forced into staying here, bag in hand, to await a shuttle.

With so many Midgardians running around.

Ikol ruffled his feathers on a nearby bench, exuding a 'above this' vibe for all to see. Or just looking like a magpie. That could be it to.

For now, Loki would busy himself with Angry Birds. It was enthralling for some unknown reason.

Dorothy Gale had been rather pleasantly surprised, half-way through her train ride from Kansas. A visit from her friend Ozma, so long had they been apart, and a magical portal offered to her to get to her next destination. And with a gentle kiss on the cheek from her friend, she had smiled and stepped through that portal, eager to see what she was in store for.

It was entirely curious and entirely new, Dorothy had decided. She was quite happy to be here even if she was not sure where here was. She was not, however, awkward or even shy about her new surroundings. Instead, dressed in her quite plain, quite modest dress, she made her way into the middle of the lounge with her suitcase in one hand and her little wicker basket over her other arm.

She would start to greet people in a moment, but first she peeked into the wicker basket and smiled.

"I think we're almost there, Toto," she said, greeting her little long-suffering mutt. Aunt Em may have told her to leave him behind, but she hardly could have done that.

It had been a few semesters since Anakin had traumatized the newbies driven the shuttle, so he chalked up the bad feeling he had to the absolute stupidity of the other drivers on the road.

He, naturally, was an amazing driver, and they should all be so lucky to be driven in a school bus that could (and did, with terrifying regularity) go 110 miles an hour.

"Fandom High?" he called out, stepping into the lounge with his cloak swirling dramatically around his ankles.

Philosophical question: does Anakin Solo have to pay royalties to Anakin Skywalker for yelling NooOOOOooOOOOOOoOOOOOooOOOOOOOooOOOOOOOooooo, or would that just be an interdepartmental billing arrangement to avoid inheritance tax issues down the line?
