BWI Airport, Portalocity Lounge, Friday Morning [12/30]

Anakin still thought that getting sent off to school at some place he'd never heard of (and he'd been trying to memorize star maps practically since he was old enough to read) was one of Uncle Luke's stranger decisions. He'd graduated from the Academy, he wasn't a little kid any more, but as his uncle's apprentice he didn't have much room to argue. He'd much rather have been back in the thick of things if it were up to him, but it wasn't and Luke had sent him here, so he'd trust Luke's judgment even if he didn't understand it. Sending him to Dantooine with Aunt Mara had been weird at the time, too, and turned out to be a valuable learning experience.

The large Fandom High banner in the Portalocity lounge left little doubt that he was in the right place. With a tiny sigh, Anakin set his single bag down on the floor, tugged at the hem of his tunic. and brushed his fingertips against the hilt of the lightsaber hanging from his belt. That, at least, was something familiar in a completely unfamiliar environment.

He never liked waiting around for things to happen, but since he couldn't be home helping the Jedi with the war effort waiting for the shuttle to show up was the only thing to do right now. Well, that and finding out what the other new students would be like, and he supposed that part would happen soon enough.

[OOC: You will wait for the OCD. *Jedi mind-tricks* Shuttle post is goooooooooo!]

"Oh my," Dorothy said, not finding that unbelievable but fascinating. "Where are you from, then? Europe? The Indies? I've studied the maps so many times, I probably know where you're from."

She was in for a bit of a surprise, operating on the assumption there was only Earth and Oz.

And what a silly assumption that was!

"From Montressor, actually. It's a little mining planet out past the Coral Galaxy and Magellanic Cloud." A beat. "Which you've probably never heard of."

Said, naturally, in a not-at-all hipster sort of way.

Astronomy hadn't been one of the things Dorothy had found many books on, so she just got an amazed look on her face.

"Out in the stars?" she said. "I've not heard of those specifically, but I know what a galaxy is. And you came all this way just to come to school?"

That was terribly exciting. Not just that she was meeting someone from the stars, but also the possibility that more people like that would be at this school.

"Well, yeah," Jim replied, grinning a little. "Though, I mean, it wasn't such a big deal. Morph and I just took a portal this far, which is way faster than commissioning a ship or something."

And, frankly, he'd much rather travel by portal than risk Delbert hiring another crew for him that was mostly made up of pirates.

"I took a portal too," Dorothy admitted. "I hadn't expected to, but then Ozma was in one of the train stations and I could hardly believe it."

She blushed a little. "Ozma is my friend," she explained. "The empress of all of Oz."

"Oh, hey. Royalty." Jim nodded a bit, and then laughed a little. "That's pretty cool. I think there's actually some royalty in the student body, too, so at least you'll be prepared for that, huh?"

"Well, I'm not royalty myself," Dorothy said. "Just... happened to be friends with one. They're not all that different, you know. They just get asked really big things of them, which is silly when you think that they actually aren't all that different."

She paused.

"Though Ozma is magical, so maybe there's something to that, actually."

"Magic, huh?" Jim grinned a little bit. "Yeah, there are a few people who can do magicky stuff on the island, too. That was always a little beyond me, though. I'm more a machines and technology kind of guy."

Weird, steampunky technology!

"I'm not much of anything, myself," Dorothy admitted with a pleasant smile. "Just a farm girl who likes to learn and help. Is there anyone like that at the school?"

"Farm girls? Or helpful people? I'm not so sure about the first, but there's plenty of the other kind, at least. That's something, right?"

"Well I don't mind being unique," Dorothy said, with a hint of pride in her voice. "But the other students being helpful is a very good sign. I hope they're all as friendly as you, too."
