BWI Airport, Portalocity Lounge, Friday Morning [12/30]

Anakin still thought that getting sent off to school at some place he'd never heard of (and he'd been trying to memorize star maps practically since he was old enough to read) was one of Uncle Luke's stranger decisions. He'd graduated from the Academy, he wasn't a little kid any more, but as his uncle's apprentice he didn't have much room to argue. He'd much rather have been back in the thick of things if it were up to him, but it wasn't and Luke had sent him here, so he'd trust Luke's judgment even if he didn't understand it. Sending him to Dantooine with Aunt Mara had been weird at the time, too, and turned out to be a valuable learning experience.

The large Fandom High banner in the Portalocity lounge left little doubt that he was in the right place. With a tiny sigh, Anakin set his single bag down on the floor, tugged at the hem of his tunic. and brushed his fingertips against the hilt of the lightsaber hanging from his belt. That, at least, was something familiar in a completely unfamiliar environment.

He never liked waiting around for things to happen, but since he couldn't be home helping the Jedi with the war effort waiting for the shuttle to show up was the only thing to do right now. Well, that and finding out what the other new students would be like, and he supposed that part would happen soon enough.

[OOC: You will wait for the OCD. *Jedi mind-tricks* Shuttle post is goooooooooo!]

"Well maybe your plight will inspire him to do a PSA about the importance of staying in school," he replied with a grin. "I'm Matt by the way. Matt Murdock."

"And make me lose all respect for one of the most inventive and moving bands ever to come out of teeny-bopper bullshit? No, thanks!"

But she was grinning as she said it, with a faint chuckle of her own, before following suit with the introductions. "Britta. Britta Perry. It's nice to meet you, Matt."

"Likewise," Matt replied as he tilted his head in amusement. "Though I hopefully won't make you lose respect for me if I told you I've never heard of radiohead."

At that, Britta was torn between being shocked that someone hadn't heard of Radiohead, or impressed that, apparently, Matt probably didn't bother with anything so mainstream.

"That depends," Britta offered. "How willing are you to be educated on one of the most influential bands of probably the next decade and then some?"

Sadly Matt had not heard of Radiohead because in his timeline Radiohead was probably a good decade or so in his future. Or maybe less. Silly Marvel and their timelines.

"Well, I'm always willing to be tutored," Matt said with a small smirk. "Especially if I'm missing out on the most influential bands of the next decade. I'd hate to be left out."

Or it could be Matt wanted to hang out with what appeared to be an attractive girl. That schemer.

Again, Britta nodded in approval. "Think it'll be a long bus ride?" she asked, glancing through the windows of the lounge and considering. "I could let you borrow my Walkman if you wanted to listen to the tape."

Which was a mix tape copied illegally from a friend's CD in exchange for a boob shot. Britta's pride was practically palpable.

"That'd be great," Matt replied. "Though I have no idea how long the bus ride will be. I've never even been out of New York City before."

"You're from New York?" A new spark of interest lit up quickly in Britta. "I've always wanted to go to New York! I'm a lot closer here than I was back in Colorado, too, so it should be pretty easy."

"It is," Matt agreed. "I'd give you a tour but I'm not sure Hell's kitchen is a place you'd like to visit. And I'm not really good at sightseeing."

Yes. That would be Matt making a joke.

A joke that Britta would probably be just a little slow to have picked up on even if she had realized yet that Matt was blind. Which, of course, she hadn't.

"More like Hell's kitchen is exactly the place I'd like to visit," she corrected confidently. "I mean, that's the real New York, isn't it? Not just some facade of a big city where middle America might still feel comfortable and think it's a nice place to visit, but they wouldn't want to live there."

"Well it's also pretty dirty, has a lot of crime and not a place you want to hang out in after dark," Matt with a small smile. "I'm surprised. Most people want to see the Statue of Liberty."

"Well," said Britta, pulling herself with a beam bright enough even Matt could probably see it, "I guess I'm just not most people."

"Well, I guess I could show you around then," Matt joked as he held up his cane. "Though I haven't really seen Hell's Kitchen since I was twelve. There might be buildings that have disappeared since then."

The guy grew up in Hell's Kitchen. That was so bad ass.

"First chance we get to ditch classes, we are so going," Britta decided.

Matt actually was kind of bad ass. Not that he'd be showing it in public.

However he was also a bit of a stick of the mud when it came to school.

"Actually that's probably not a good idea," Matt ventured. "I'm on scholarship. Skipping class is probably not a good idea for me. But I'm sure there would be time on the weekends."

Britta's nose wrinkled a little bit, since scholarship and bad ass didn't usually go together well, but, since she knew how much money sucked, she really couldn't hold it against the guy.

"I guess a weekend in NYC would work, too," she said, reluctantly, and because everyone called it NYC, right?
