Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

If anyone had hoped for good weather for the picnic, their wish had been granted as the day turned out to be sunny and warm. Everything had been cleaned up, spiffed up and bedazzled dazzled made as perfect as possible for the new arrivals. They deserved at least a few moments of pleasantness before the weirdness started to sink in.

May whatever deity they believed in help them now.

As usual, there were long tables set up with food and drinks, a table of nametags, and two signs: one listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, and one listing rooms and roommates for the new students. With everything in place, the picnic was ready to begin.

Hammer swaggered over when he figured out which one was his 'teaching buddy.' "Hi!" he crowed, offering one giant, gloved hand. "I'm...Captain Hammer."

Yes, he just paused for dramatic effect.

Armour polished and undented to the best of its capacity (which wasn't much) and Boo clinging to his shoulders with the urge to just scurry down into the safety of his pouch at a second's notice, Minsc rubbed his big hands together eagerly at the sight of all the new people. He was particularly eager to find the fellow who he was supposed to help settle into teaching here, keeping an eye out for the certain-to-be-distinguished Captain Nathan Algren.

While he had managed to shipwreck (if one could call it that. It was only a lifeboat, after all) only that morning, Algren did look... Well. Somewhat distinguished, at least. Distinguished enough.

He looked like a guy who had gotten drunk on whiskey and sailed a small wooden boat from the Pacific to the Atlantic.

"Excuse me," he ventured, eying one particular large man somewhat warily as he approached, "Would you happen to know a gentleman by the name of 'Minsc?'"

While she could have left Grace with John, Zoe had decided to bring her to the picnic, at least for a little while. For the moment, they were sitting a at a table, where Zoe was breaking down food into Grace-sized bits.

Ghanima was there, of course, to watch the hubbub of activity as the picnic went on. The lure of people-watching and adult company had been too good to resist.

Irulan might have warned him that this place would surprise him, and even though he had secretly doubted it, Leto had to admit she had been right. His sister was here. Older, yes, but it was her. It couldn't be anyone else.

All right, this was a little weirder than Dana was used to, and this was someone who'd come straight from New York. So she was hanging out, watching the crowd, and wondering if it meant she was getting old when she started wondering what kids today thought passed for clothes.

Lily liked the newbie picnics. She liked seeing the new kids who might be in her class, and seriously, even the ones who weren't. Maybe there'd be more robots.

Captain Hammer was not wearing a nametag. He felt he was instantly recognizable. His name was plastered all over the place at home, after all. Such things came with being a hero.

Also, his shirt had a hammer on it.

Zoe thought she had a pretty good handle on who was arriving today, so when she saw Mal, she found herself staring at him. "Captain?"

J. Jonah Jameson didn't look happy to have to be here in a park surrounded by kids. Or his fellow teachers, for that matter. He didn't understand why they didn't just make him principal, which would allow him to implement his unique management style while letting him tell everyone what to do. He enjoyed doing that.

Then again, he rarely looked happy anyway, so this wasn't a big deal, really.

Anakin was there, oh so grateful not to have had to drive the stupid bus full of stupid students that probably included more stupid relatives.

Anakin was, as always, a ray of sunshine.

He had his hood up and looked just as approachable as he ever did.
