Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

If anyone had hoped for good weather for the picnic, their wish had been granted as the day turned out to be sunny and warm. Everything had been cleaned up, spiffed up and bedazzled dazzled made as perfect as possible for the new arrivals. They deserved at least a few moments of pleasantness before the weirdness started to sink in.

May whatever deity they believed in help them now.

As usual, there were long tables set up with food and drinks, a table of nametags, and two signs: one listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, and one listing rooms and roommates for the new students. With everything in place, the picnic was ready to begin.

[OCD is up!! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible.]

"It stands for Juh-none-of-your-business," Jonah said. "So what do you teach?"

Indy cocked his eyebrow at that. Arrogant son of gun, huh?

"Formerly archealogy," he replied. "Now I'm in charge of the library. I'm also here to help you settle in at the school. What are you going to be teaching here this semester?"

"They put me with a librarian?" Jonah increduloused. His reaction was so incredulous that the adverb became an actual verb. "Well, at least you probably know how to read. I'm teaching Journalism."

"It's not so much an academic thing," Indy said biting back a sarcastic response. "More like... helping you get used to some of the more interesting phenomena on the island."

"I come from a place where a man with bug-powers dresses in a goofy costume and terrorizes the city," Jonah said. "If I can deal with that, I can deal with anything."

"Let me guess," Indy replied. "You live in New York."

It wasn't the bug powers thing. It was mostly Jameson's accent but New Yorkers always thought they could deal with everything.

"Bingo," Jonah said. "So what kind of 'interesting phenomena' do we get here anyway?"

Indiana gave him a rather snarky looking grin. "Do you really want me to spoil the fun? This isn't your normal high school."

"I know. I've met the Vice Principal. Raving lunatic, probably hopped up on something I've never even heard of," Jonah explained.

"And he's just the tip of the iceberg," Indiana assured him. "Just wait until you meet the students. How did you end up here anyway?"

"I took a plane," Jonah said, answering the simplest interpretation of the question. "And then a cab. And then I walked from there."

Indiana sighed and rolled his eyes a little bit. "Well you're just a bundle of laughs, aren't you?"

"You wanted a different answer, you should have asked a better question," Jonah said. "It's a good rule in journalism."

Indy sighed. "So how did you come about gaining employment at this fine educational institution?" he asked sarcastically.

"Mywifeforcedmetotakeabreakfromrunningmynewspaper," Jonah mumbled.

"Sorry? Didn't quite hear that."

He did. He just wanted to hear it again.

"My wife made me take a break from my newspaper," Jonah said. "My quack doctor was concerned about my blood pressure, so she arranged for me to come here and calm down a little."

"So what if I were to tell you that some of your students aren't from this planet at all?" Indy asked. "Or sometimes from the future or past?"

"I'd tell you that it would make for a great headline," Jonah said.

"But do you believe it?" Indy asked looking somewhat amused.

"Belief? That doesn't matter. I focus on the truth, or what can be massaged into the truth to help sell newspapers," Jonah said.
