Leadership: Thursday, Period 1, Class 1. (9/4/08)

"Morning everyone," Nathan said. He took a spot at the head of the class. He was, as near darned always, dressed in a suit. "I'm Mr. Petrelli. For anyone here who might be close with my brother Peter, I'm still Mr. Petrelli."

Nathan handed out the syllabus and class rules. "Here's the overview of the class for the semester. Make sure to read it as OOC rules are in there too. Because I'm a lawyer there is the fine print of classes being subject to change at any time.

"Today's class is going to be very easy though. First, I want everyone to introduce themselves with their name and why they're taking the class. Second?"

Nathan sat down behind his desk, looking for all the world like he was done for the day. "Someone needs to be in charge of this class. Let me know if you figure out who that is.

"And Meg? Come see me after class. Thanks."

"I'm Ender," Ender said; he was starting to be tired of all the introductions, but this was the last, at least. "I'm here because I'm curious about civilian leadership." And that was the truth. A shot at something.

"My name is Agnes Nitt," she declared, daring Mr. Petrelli to laugh. "I'm here because I'm going to be stuck in a position of leadership whether I like it or not, so I might as well learn how to do it properly."

"My name is Joan Girardi, I'm a junior, new student and my mom chose my classes so I guess she wants me to learn how to be a leader or something," Joan said.

"Hey," Summer greeted. "I'm Summer Roberts and I'm a senior. I'm taking this class because I thought it would be a good idea to learn about leadership. Maybe someday I'll be the leader of something. Who knows."

"My name is Teyla Emmagan, and I chose to take this class because my father is the leader of our people, the Athosians. If--when I return home," she said quickly, "it will be my responsibility to lead our people when my father is no longer with us. I want to do whatever I can to ensure that I am prepared."

"I'm Teddy." He waved slight. "Senior. I'm taking this class because I might need to use it when I graduate and go home," Teddy said, looking around nervously.

"I'm Lieutenant Ben Skywalker, I'm fourteen and a freshman," he said, looking around for familiar faces. "Leadership kind of runs in the family--my father is the Grand Master Jedi and my mother also sits on the Jedi Council. I'm a lieutenant in the Guard back home, so it's really important for me to know that I'm telling my men to do the right things."

Fourteen year olds shouldn't sound so solemn.

"My name is T.R. Wexler," Turtle announced, and she stood proudly with a small grin, "more commonly known as Turtle, and I am taking this class because Leadership is an incredibly important skill. I consider myself to already be a leader of sorts among the community, but it is something you should never let yourself become rusty on, constantly honing your skills and perspective. I most certainly do not have a third nipple, and I think Mister Petrelli's classes are always a very valuable and enjoyable experience."

"L-Logic dictates that Petrelli-san i-is the leader," Hinata offered meekly. "B-But logic s-saying that d-doesn't necessarily m-mean that he is the b-best leader f-for the class."

For those who haven't taken a Nathan class before: I try to post the night before just before I go to bed. Pings get picked up the next day when work allows as well as when I get home at night. Ping Nathan in the "Talk to Nathan" thread if you want to be sure to get his IC attention.

Now we can all take bets on how good my 1) headache and 2) vision will be tomorrow. :D
