Leadership: Thursday, Period 1, Class 1. (9/4/08)

"Morning everyone," Nathan said. He took a spot at the head of the class. He was, as near darned always, dressed in a suit. "I'm Mr. Petrelli. For anyone here who might be close with my brother Peter, I'm still Mr. Petrelli."

Nathan handed out the syllabus and class rules. "Here's the overview of the class for the semester. Make sure to read it as OOC rules are in there too. Because I'm a lawyer there is the fine print of classes being subject to change at any time.

"Today's class is going to be very easy though. First, I want everyone to introduce themselves with their name and why they're taking the class. Second?"

Nathan sat down behind his desk, looking for all the world like he was done for the day. "Someone needs to be in charge of this class. Let me know if you figure out who that is.

"And Meg? Come see me after class. Thanks."

[ooc: OCD is up! Be sure to read the OOC note as well as the class rules. Thanks!]

"You are, in a sense," Evey said. "We each elected to place ourselves in this class, under your teaching. However, we equally could choose to undermine your authority, and you operate in a system of checks and balances within the school, don't you? You can't fail us without due cause, and we can't expect to do well without cooperating. So, I'd say you're in charge inasmuch as you do lead the course but that we are each in charge of our own success, I suppose."

"You haven't given me a reason to argue with it yet, sir," she pointed out. "Ask me again if anyone begins abusing their given power. But it's certainly fine for the present."

"The power checks on either side. We can rebel by dropping out of the course, or refusing to participate, and you in turn can assign detention or give us lower marks as a consequence," she said. "But, I would think that if all of us dropped or failed the course, it would be a sign to you, or at least the administration. No one has absolute power. It's all very balanced."
