Sex Ed, Wednesday, Period 2, Class #3
Once everyone was seated, Edward addressed the class. "I know that some questions you have may be difficult to ask in person. For that reason, we now have a question box." He gestured at a wooden suggestion box sitting on a side table. "If you have a question, drop it in there and I will address it during the next class. And no, you do not have to sign your name. Also, Chuck, I'd like to talk to you after class."
"Today we are discussing Gender, Identity and Sexuality," Edward said. "We will be spending the majority of this semester learning about healthy behavior, but it is important we discuss abnormalities so you can recognize them when you see them." He discussed sex chromosomal abnormalities and then launched into a lecture about homosexuality, including what causes it and ways it can be cured. He also explained how dangerous homosexuality can be, and how friends and loved ones must be encouraged to choose heterosexuality for their own safety.
"For today's discussion, let's talk about choice. Write down at least three things that you choose to be and at least three things that you are and cannot be changed. Then share these with your group. Do you agree with everyone's list?"
"For example, Kevin has blond hair. Would you say that Kevin is blond or that he chooses to be blond?"

Still and all, that didn't stop him from writing down one or two things that he was and one or two things that he chose to be, at least.
He was his father's son, certainly. And he was a teenager, and a boy who could light on fire. But he chose to be antisocial, chose to work in a restaurant, and he chose to dress as such, as well.
Good luck prying the list from his hand, though. He was going to glare at the members of his group. Crankily.

He suddenly, out of a bout of frustration and trying to keep himself seeming more angry than simply about to cry like a girl, he reached out and grabbed the paper crumpled it up, and threw it. It went about a foot before dropping to the floor from the pathetic lob and Cal declared, "This assignment is stupid."
...And then got out another sheet of paper. Greek. He wrote down Greek. That was something he didn't choose to be. He could also put down a product of incest that lead him into complications with ever being comfortable with his sexuality, too, but he didn't.
Skinny, he couldn't help that one, either, even when he tried.
"Stupid."
No, that wasn't his next item.

It's not that he believed what Professor Cullen was saying. It really wasn't. It's just that hearing it -- and not for the first time -- hit rather hard. So he was silent, there, and chose -- hah -- to not participate in class.
Unless one of the group members wants to ping him.
