Sex Ed, Wednesday, Period 2, Class #3

Once everyone was seated, Edward addressed the class. "I know that some questions you have may be difficult to ask in person. For that reason, we now have a question box." He gestured at a wooden suggestion box sitting on a side table. "If you have a question, drop it in there and I will address it during the next class. And no, you do not have to sign your name. Also, Chuck, I'd like to talk to you after class."

"Today we are discussing Gender, Identity and Sexuality," Edward said. "We will be spending the majority of this semester learning about healthy behavior, but it is important we discuss abnormalities so you can recognize them when you see them." He discussed sex chromosomal abnormalities and then launched into a lecture about homosexuality, including what causes it and ways it can be cured. He also explained how dangerous homosexuality can be, and how friends and loved ones must be encouraged to choose heterosexuality for their own safety.

"For today's discussion, let's talk about choice. Write down at least three things that you choose to be and at least three things that you are and cannot be changed. Then share these with your group. Do you agree with everyone's list?"

"For example, Kevin has blond hair. Would you say that Kevin is blond or that he chooses to be blond?"

"My hair is totally natural," he announced to the group as he crossed his arms.

"This guy's a complete tool," he added, glaring at Edward.

"Uh huh." Marco said, agreeing with something. It was hard to tell, he was back to using his hands as a pillow.

Kevin continued to glare. "What does he know about it anyway? I mean, it's not like I chose to get the crap beaten out of me by my own stepfather."

Marco woke up enough to comment. "Hunh?"

Now Kevin wasn't really paying attention, lost in memories he would much rather forget.

Toby was infatuated with Kevin's hair. "Dude, your hair is way hot." He was off task and missing something critical.

Kevin smiled at Toby. "Thanks, Toby," he said. "I choose to be hot. Or am I just hot?"

He looked confused.

"Dude, you couldn't not be hot." He nodded. He knew things.

"No, dude, you couldn't not be hot." Kevin leaned over and planted a solid kiss on Toby's lips.

Toby grinned, feeling so loved and accepted. He really should listen to the lectures sometime.

Warren didn't want to play this game any more than the rest of his group, apparently.

Still and all, that didn't stop him from writing down one or two things that he was and one or two things that he chose to be, at least.

He was his father's son, certainly. And he was a teenager, and a boy who could light on fire. But he chose to be antisocial, chose to work in a restaurant, and he chose to dress as such, as well.

Good luck prying the list from his hand, though. He was going to glare at the members of his group. Crankily.
