Sex Ed, Wednesday, Period 2, Class #3

Once everyone was seated, Edward addressed the class. "I know that some questions you have may be difficult to ask in person. For that reason, we now have a question box." He gestured at a wooden suggestion box sitting on a side table. "If you have a question, drop it in there and I will address it during the next class. And no, you do not have to sign your name. Also, Chuck, I'd like to talk to you after class."

"Today we are discussing Gender, Identity and Sexuality," Edward said. "We will be spending the majority of this semester learning about healthy behavior, but it is important we discuss abnormalities so you can recognize them when you see them." He discussed sex chromosomal abnormalities and then launched into a lecture about homosexuality, including what causes it and ways it can be cured. He also explained how dangerous homosexuality can be, and how friends and loved ones must be encouraged to choose heterosexuality for their own safety.

"For today's discussion, let's talk about choice. Write down at least three things that you choose to be and at least three things that you are and cannot be changed. Then share these with your group. Do you agree with everyone's list?"

"For example, Kevin has blond hair. Would you say that Kevin is blond or that he chooses to be blond?"

Claire was huffy as she took her seat. "Okay, so my brother is gay," she announced. "And our teacher is a fucking idiot."

Re: Group 4

[identity profile] not-fangirl.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 12:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Temari glanced over toward him for a moment. "I thought we figured that out in the first class."

Re: Group 4

[identity profile] swipedthatfoot.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 12:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"It was kind of obvious," Claire agreed. "Just I didn't know he was going to be this bad. I thought even the religious freaks wouldn't say that crap in school."

She hmmphed. "I should just walk out."

Re: Group 4

[identity profile] not-fangirl.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 01:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"What good does that do?"

Re: Group 4

[identity profile] swipedthatfoot.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 01:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Claire thought about that a moment, then visibly slumped over her desk. "None," she admitted. "I'm stuck in a classroom with a religious freak for three months." She tilted her head up to glare at said religious freak.

"You could talk to his superiors." That sounded wrong. "The principal."

Re: Group 4

[identity profile] swipedthatfoot.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 01:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Claire seriously thought about it, which went to show how mad she was. She generally made it a policy to avoid the principal's office unless under duress.

"Is she nice?"

Re: Group 4

[identity profile] not-fangirl.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 01:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Temari frowned for a moment. "I've never met her."

Re: Group 4

[identity profile] swipedthatfoot.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 01:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"So what if she just agrees with him?" Claire argued logically. "Then I have, like, a target on my back."

"That's nice about your brother," Jenny said. "I'm bisexual, since we're sharing, but I couldn't agree more with your assessment of our teacher."

Claire was pretty sure the English girl had just bitched at her, so she gave her a slightly evil look. "Good for you," she tried. "And he so, so is. I'm talking to him after class, and no way am I doing the exercise."

Actually, Claire was just getting caught in the crossfire of her bitchery. With Jenny there was always enough to go around. "I certainly thought so. But now that our teacher has lectured me I have seen the light. Except he didn't mention bisexuals. Perhaps we don't exist."

Re: Group 4

[identity profile] swipedthatfoot.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Claire snorted. "I think bisexuals would make his tiny little head explode."

"I always wish I was bi," she added. "Girls just seem ... easier."
ashockingbitch: (Jenny possibly stoned)

"I should try that, then," Jenny said. "And no, you really don't, because no, they're really not. They can be fun though."

"At least you don't have to deal with unfamiliar genitalia," she tried.

Her doodles weren't becoming vaguely labial. Really.

"That's true," Jenny said. "And breasts are fun. But so are, you know, man bits. So really it's a best of both worlds sort of scenario."

Cal stared at his paper as if it was about to stab him. Make a list of what you choose to be and what you can't choose to be, and here he was, sitting there in a class of people who would probably, without even thinking, jot down male or female as something they just were.

He suddenly, out of a bout of frustration and trying to keep himself seeming more angry than simply about to cry like a girl, he reached out and grabbed the paper crumpled it up, and threw it. It went about a foot before dropping to the floor from the pathetic lob and Cal declared, "This assignment is stupid."

...And then got out another sheet of paper. Greek. He wrote down Greek. That was something he didn't choose to be. He could also put down a product of incest that lead him into complications with ever being comfortable with his sexuality, too, but he didn't.

Skinny, he couldn't help that one, either, even when he tried.

"Stupid."

No, that wasn't his next item.

"Not a fan of the teacher, Sparkles?" Temari asked, watching his dramatics out of the corner of her eye.

Re: Group 4

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 01:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"This assignment is stupid," Cal reiterated, making a face at his paper. "You can work around a detail a hundred way about shit like this."

"Stupid," he added again, for good measure. "How 'bout you? Do you put down whether you choose or not choose to be a bitch, Fanbutt?"

Re: Group 4

[identity profile] not-fangirl.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"I've been very nice about your little girlfriend running around calling me that to everyone, Cal. Don't make me regret that."

Re: Group 4

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 01:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, I was just talking about in general," Cal said, but the fact that she'd used his actual name brought his tone down a few pegs from snark. He looked at her for a moment before, taking in a breath, he rolled his eyes away, trying to get a wrangle on his emotions. He really couldn't even concern himself with the fact that she'd used his actual name because everything else in his head wouldn't even allow something like that to manifest, crowding it out with need to stop himself from getting misty eyed.

He sighed, eyes shifting again down toward the paper. "Don't you think it's a stupid assignment, though? What you can and can't choose to be?"

"With his examples?" Temari inhaled deeply, eyes shut for a moment. "It's more acceptable here than back home, but then most relationships are hidden no matter what gender the partner is. It's a non-issue if you ask me. As long as the job is done, who they fuck is immaterial."

Re: Group 4

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 01:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Cal blinked at Temari for a moment and, with another surge of panic twisting up his stomach, realized that there was probably a whole section of the lecture that he, in all his dread, had completely failed to register. Not like he could really say anything, because that presented the threat of having to explain himself, so he'd just have to piece it together from what Temari said. Someone with as much confidence as Fanbutt was far less likely to have drowned everything out from internal flailing.

No matter what gender the partner is. Homosexuality, then. He...supposed that made sense considering the start of the lecture and gender identity, but what Temari said after that quirked Cal's eyebrow. "'Who they fuck is immaterial,'" he repeated. "Like I'm going to believe you really believe that, Fanbutt. Hey, it doesn't matter what gender they are, but if they're too skinny, forget about it, you shouldn't date 'em."
