Sam was resting with his head on his arms, but he wasn't sleeping. No, seriously, he was too afraid of getting poked by Dawn if he let himself fall asleep.
Then he skimmed through the message boards he frequented, laughing at the concerns over the summer's "Plotterdammerung" more than he probably should have.
After Home Ec, Dawn came in with an armful of books and notebooks so she could study for her Artifacts and Government finals. It was just convenient that her seat also gave her a good view of the mostly-healed boyfriend behind the desk whenever she glanced up.
But she didn't stare, because that would be creepy.
If it was Dean that was watching him, Sam would probably be annoyed. But he couldn't feel the same way about Dawn, no matter how much she fretted over him.
"Pretty quiet. Handed in my project, explained about the bucket of miniaturized stakes by the door, so it's all good," she shrugged, "What's up with you? Still studying?"
Sam sighed and rolled his eyes a little. "I am taking it easy, Dean. I haven't done much of anything today except sit here and read, and talk to Dawn. That's restful, isn't it?"
Her Zen Computer Science final was over, and she should be studying for her two finals tomorrow, but there were more important things she needed to look up.
She walked into the library tentatively and waved at the guy behind the counter. "Uh, Sam, right? Hiya. I, uh, need some help?"
"Yeah, hi," she said, smiling nervously. "I, uh. I need information and I don't even know where I should look. Or how to start. It's about ... dreamstates. And the Farplane, and the fayth, and Summoners, but I don't think you guys would have books about that here. And kinda existence and dimensional locations but I'm not sure how all of that works? And I'm not so good with this library thing, I think." She bit her lip.
"Whoa. That sounds like some pretty major stuff," Sam said. For a moment, he was tempted to send her in the wrong direction completely, with the idea that if she had no information on dimensions, she wouldn't be able to do anything that got Dawn hurt. But that wasn't fair, to Dawn, or to Rikku.
"I'm sure we have books on dreamstates and altered states of consciousness and alternate dimensions," he said. "As for the specific stuff, we might have books on those subjects, but they could very well be in Special Collections. We have a computer catalog where you can check though, and I can show you how."
Rikku nodded. "Yeah. It's ... kinda scary. And I want to be sure about it all before ... before we try anything, you know? If we do. I don't want it to be like last time."
She laughed a bit at herself. "Sorry. Just ... yeah. If you could help, that'd be great. I'm not sure what I'm looking for is even going to be here. But I have to start somewhere, right?"
