Sam still looked and felt like crap when he went to open the library, but he was pretty sure that spending the day surrounded by books would help.

"I was supposed to look after you Sammy. Stay with you. I disobeyed Dad and went out and you almost died." Dean hadn't been looking at his brother -- couldn't to get through that story -- but now he move his gaze to meet Sammy's. "Dad never looked at me the same again after that. He was right not to -- I almost got you killed and because of me, he stopped the hunt and took us to Pastor Jim's and the striga got away. So any other kid it's killed since then is my fault too."

"No, Dean. You're wrong," Sam said. "You're wrong about all of that. Dad had no right to look at you differently, and it's not your fault if anyone else has died. You were a kid! You weren't old enough to be responsible for taking care of me, no matter what Dad might have said, and I didn't know that then, but I know it now. It wasn't your fault."

Dean shook his head. "Being a kid isn't an excuse. He trusted me -- trusted that I could handle the responsibility. Trusted me to keep you safe. I'm not going to fail again."

"Being a kid is an excuse! You're not going to fail, Dean. I don't think you failed the first time, but I know after everything Dad's drilled into you, you're not going to believe me." Sam sighed, looking at Dean seriously. "What do you expect from me? To just let you watch my every move?"

"I think that would drive us both crazy," Dean said with a weak smile. "Just... let me look out for you. Don't fight me every step of the way. Let me do my job."

Sam wondered if Dean would look out for him if he didn't think it was his job, but he didn't want to ask, and he was too tired to argue with Dean anymore. "Fine," he said. "I'll try."

"Okay... good," Dean said, something at a loss now that Sammy had stopped fighting him on this. Trying to lighten the mood, he added, "There's more important things we can be arguing about -- like your taste in music."

Sam couldn't help but laugh softly. "My taste in music is fine. It's just different from yours."

"You have no appreciation for the classics," Dean told him.

"I totally appreciate the classics - Mozart, Beethoven, Bach...they're awesome."

"Now you're just playing stupid," Dean pointed out.

"You and I just don't think of 'classics' in the same way," Sam replied.

"You and I don't think of a lot of things in the same way," Dean pointed out.

"You've got a point," Sam admitted. "We'd probably argue a lot less if we agreed on everything."

"Yeah, but it wouldn't be as interesting," Dean offered with a hopeful smile.

Sam smirked at Dean. "Definitely not."

"So you're just going to sit here and read, geekboy?" Dean asked.

"That's my plan," Sam replied. "I might have to do some talking too, if anyone else comes in, but relaxing with reading material is my main goal."

"I suppose I can't stop you doing that," Dean said grudgingly. "But you go straight back to your room when you're done here. Now wild partying tonight."

"Right, because wild partying is totally what my evenings are about," Sam said, laughing.

"Or even your version of wild partying." He paused. "Or wild sex for that matter."

"Dean! Could you be any more inappropriate?" Sam asked. "Dawn and I will not be having wild sex."

"Just until you're better," Dean clarified. "When you're no longer concussed you can have all the wild sex you want."

"Yeah, okay, I'll be sure to get right on that," Sam said sarcastically.

"You should," Dean told him.
