"Yeah. There's information out there, we just ... have to find it. There has to be a way." She nodded. "And thanks. And ... I'm sure Dawn understands, with the protective-thing."
Rikku considered for a minute. "You're the fighter-type?"
Sam smirked. "Yeah, for the most part. My brother and I were pretty much raised as soldiers. He's a better fighter than I am, while I'm better with research, but...I'm pretty good at the killing of bad things overall. Why do you ask?"
Rikku grinned. "Oh, man! I haven't gotten to kill monsters in a while. I can't wait to go back home, my Godhand's been in storage. We should go some time! Just ... a group of people and take out some bad guys, you know!?"
She shook her head, remembering that that wasn't why she was asking in the first place. "Just that ... whoa, none of my business here, but ... she knows that you know that she can take care of herself, right? 'Cause I'm tiny and I get so tired of people thinking it means I can't beat them up, or I need someone guarding me, and ... if she gets mad when you're doing the protective-boyfriend thing, maybe ... that's why?" She facepalmed. "I said this was none of my business, right?"
"I can think of quite a few people who would consider taking a weekend to take out some bad guys to be a valuable use of time," Sam said, laughing.
"And I know that Dawn can take care of herself. I forget sometimes, and do stupid things like jump in front of her when there are guys with guns threatening us," he admitted. "I just...I'd rather do the fighting for her, if that makes any sense. I know that if she was all alone, she could take care of herself just fine. But if it's the two of us...she shouldn't have to fight unless she wants to." He smiled softly. "I know it's none of your business, but I appreciate you pointing it out anyway."
Rikku giggled. "We should have done it last weekend, to let off stress before finals! Nothing like killing some fiends to work out school jitters."
"And I ... oh! I mean, no, of course you know that. You're not that kinda guy. I'm guessing. And the wanting to fight for her ... that's totally normal. I just - I'm used to people looking at me and thinking I can't fight, and I bet Dawn gets that, too. It gets old really fast." She smiled sympathetically. "But it's totally not something most guys have to deal with, y'know? So you might not realize that she gets that, and ... yeah. Seriously gonna stop butting in now."

Well, maybe not most girls, but she did, anyway.
