"I wish I remembered," Sam said sincerely. "One minute, I was sitting in the dorm, studying, and the next thing I knew, I was on the floor of the church feeling like I got hit by a truck. I don't even remember getting to the clinic. And Anakin was just happy that I was okay. Whatever happened, I think Professor Next was involved, so he was just thankful that neither of us got really badly hurt."
"So, possession, multiple personality disorder, temporary amnesia from the head injury, or a memory spell," Dawn wasn't happy about any of those options, "and I'm thankful you didn't get hurt worse, too."
"Um." Sam looked down a little. "Dean and I think it might have been possession. He said there was something on the radio about a demon...and since I seem to be a magnet for those sorts of things..." He trailed off, sighing.
"No, there's got to be something else," Sam said. "Studying for magic class got me thinking about how effective an amulet might be, to like, ward off anything evil who might want to mess with me. Or Dean, or you, for that matter."
"I'm all for anything that might help, even if it means I'll be walking around wearing two or three amulets at a time," she waved the one Alanna had given her at him. "I'm in for research, if you want help after finals."
"Just checking." She grinned at him, happy that they could still do this, with the researching and the bantering and the being friends thing in addition to the dating thing. "What kind of amulet were you thinking?"
Sam was equally aware of how awesome it was to be able to have this sort of relationship with Dawn, and he knew he was lucky in that respect. "Something as simple as possible," Sam said. "Maybe something I can wear pretty much every day? The things the amulet would be warding against aren't exactly expected, so consistent protection would be a plus."
"Well, if you're going to be wearing it every day, it'll have to be out of a durable material," Dawn said, already thinking about the logistics, "and it should probably be blessed, just as a general precaution..."
"Definitely. Possibly in more than one way," Sam replied. "And it should be something that I can make more than once, in case you or Dean wants one too."
