Faculty Meeting (Friday after classes)

With the semester in full swing, Zoe thought there might be a need for the teachers and administration to talk to each other. Or maybe it was just Friday and Fridays deserved to be celebrated. Either way, a handwavy message had gone out to the staff to meet in the student council room for an informal faculty meeting. Zoe had set up coffee, cold drinks, donuts, and pastries; there was nothing alcoholic yet, but it was still early in the semester.

"Good afternoon," she said once it looked like everyone was there. "I wanted to give everyone a chance to get together now that we're past the introduction phase with the students. Feel free to take some food and talk to each other about whatever you need to." Whether they talked about students or things that actually interested them was up to them.

There may not have been alcohol available in the layout but there was certainly alcohol in Jayne's flask he was currently sipping from.

Jayne will no doubt get a note from the school office on that as well.

He might not have gotten a note, but he was getting an assessing look from Zoe.

"I don't know what you've got in there, but I won't ask much if you let me have a taste." It had been kind of a long week.

"Good afternoon." Hannibal nodded at the...individual that seemed to be a teacher. "Would you care for some pastry to go with that?"

Pfff, Reno had been sneaking booze into non-alcoholic school functions long before your time, Jayne. Today was no exception. Hell, he wasn't even being subtle about pouring the alcohol from his flask into his coffee mug.

Hey, the notice had said it was informal. The suit he was wearing probably balanced it out neatly, anyway.

"So, is there some kind of school rule about makin' students cry in class? Because I'm predictin' a lot of that this semester."

"We can make them cry?" Jayne said perking up. "How you making them cry? Because I got all sorts of notes how we're not supposed to punch or shoot at 'em."

"I've done it," Anakin, Dean of Students, said. "It doesn't kill 'em."

After hearing some of the other conversations, Hannibal nodded. "Ms Pryde is right. Let them understand it's acceptable, possibly even expected. Make certain they know they can come to you for help - or to someone else, if you're not comfortable with that," he added with a chuckle. "Then give them the room to deal with it."

"Is it therapeutic crying? Because I feel like a lot of the students could use some of that," Zoe said.

"Meeting" was just another word for "party", right? Especially an informal one. Pinkie was absolutely taking it as another word for "party". Hence the bunch of balloons tied around her waist that was making her hooves hover an inch or so off the floor.

Hey, at least she hadn't busted out the party cannon. And now you got to see her try to swim through the air towards the snacks.

Hannibal would never entirely get used to Pinkie. But for the moment, he just shook her head and held his box of pastries up to offer her one.

She was taking two donuts, dammit. She deserved it.

Irene helped herself to some coffee and neatly folded herself into a chair.

She hadn't actually see a lot of coworkers, so far, so this was...eye-opening.

He'd had a good stiff drink before coming to the meeting.

"Mr. Bond." Hannibal nodded at the other person holding up decent men's fashions. "How is your class going - culture, isn't it?" He held out the box of profiteroles in offer.

Of course Ghanima was going to be there, since there were pastries. Her coffee was spiked as well, but with Spice rather than the 'traditional' alcohol. She was in minor withdrawal after transitioning from the air of Dune to the island - again - but nothing that a bracing coffee wouldn't not fix for now.

"Who let Reno and Karla teach?" she asked rhetorically, blue-on-blue eyes dancing with mischief. "I'm rather sure I failed both of them at least once."

No you didn't, Ghani, don't be mean.

"You did not!" Karla protested, sticking her tongue out at Lady Ghanima. They were peers now, she could do that. "And I wasn't allowed, I was shanghai'd."

"Never failed me," Reno replied, laughing and shaking his head. "Hell, I'd say you did just fine as a teacher, yo."

Was he deliberately misinterpreting what she was saying, there?

Hannibal chuckled and looked over to see who that was. And gave her a slightly longer, more curious, look at seeing her eyes. "Hello, I don't believe we've met. Doctor Hannibal Lecter; I'm teaching cooking. Would you care for some of the fruits of my labor?" He held out the box of pastries to her.

Karla, who currently could not drink, was giving everyone else who was a dirty look. Look at them all, showing off their ability to drink alcohol grumble grumble razzum frazzum.

That's fine! She'd just sit here with her juice like a four year old. WHATEVER, SHE DIDN'T EVEN CARE.

Yeah yeah, Constantine had unearthed himself from the library long enough to drag his butt to the faculty meeting.

"This where I ask for a line in my budget for sacrifices to Special Collections?" he asked, pulling out a cigarette. "Pretty sure at least one of the new aides is gonna get eaten by the end of the year if I don't take preventative measures."

Hannibal did not have alcohol. He did, however, have very good coffee (a thermos full) and a nice-sized box of grand marnier and vanilla mascarpone-filled profiteroles (http://gourmetgetaways.com.au/grand-marnier-vanilla-mascarpone-filled-profiteroles/).

He'd probably share with anyone who was pleasant. (So, not Anakin.)
