Faculty Meeting (Friday after classes)

With the semester in full swing, Zoe thought there might be a need for the teachers and administration to talk to each other. Or maybe it was just Friday and Fridays deserved to be celebrated. Either way, a handwavy message had gone out to the staff to meet in the student council room for an informal faculty meeting. Zoe had set up coffee, cold drinks, donuts, and pastries; there was nothing alcoholic yet, but it was still early in the semester.

"Good afternoon," she said once it looked like everyone was there. "I wanted to give everyone a chance to get together now that we're past the introduction phase with the students. Feel free to take some food and talk to each other about whatever you need to." Whether they talked about students or things that actually interested them was up to them.

"There's probably laws about that. I'd say the students shouldn't drink something like that, but some of them could probably brew a mess almost as good," she said. "I'm glad you've survived the school so far."

Jayne frowned a bit at that. "No one has shot at me yet," he allowed. "But some invisible person keeps thinking I need a cold shower."

He frowned more.

"You sure River isn't around here someplace?"

"I'm sure," Zoe said, caught between amusement at the thought of Jayne getting watered, and sadness at thinking about River. "She was at the school for a while, but she's not here anymore, I swear. I don't know what's making the cold showers happen, but I'm sure it'll stop soon enough."

Jayne tried to follow that. River was here and then she wasn't?

He'd never understand alternate universes. That was pretty apparent by the confusion on his face.

"All right, then. Long as she's not up to something," Jayne replied. "Not that I think River was ever invisible but... this place is as weird as she was."
