Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Whoever worked their magic to ensure that the welcome picnics had nice weather had cut their mojo very close this time around. The weather was lovely today - sunny and hot enough to make it clear that summer in Fandom had finally begun - but the overnight thunderstorms had left puddles all over the lawn that hadn't quite dried up yet.

Still, the tables and chairs had managed to be scattered around, along with the buffet table of moddable food and drinks, and the information table with name tags, the Big and Little Sibling list, and the list of new roommates. The only thing missing was people to enjoy the festivities!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

So the school assigned siblings. Raven wondered if it was part of some sort of Greek system. She made sure her name badge was nice and visible, then spent some time straightening her skirt and adjusting her scarf.

Appearances, she knew, were everything, and she wanted to make sure hers was as perfect as possible.

To be honest, when Jessica saw that her little sib was named 'Raven Darkholme,' she was looking around for the gothiest goth to ever goth. But she was keeping her options open! Maybe Raven was someone from a Ren Faire kind of world.

This only lasted a couple minutes before she decided to just watch for name tags like every other reasonable person. Amazing how fast that worked out. "Raven?" she asked. "Hi. I'm Jessica. We're sisters now, so says the school."

"Hi!" Raven offered a white gloved hand. Definitely not goth, no. "It's so nice to meet you. It's swell of the school to arrange siblings for us."

Seriously, not at all what Jessica expected. The clothes were one thing. But she couldn't remember the last time she heard the word 'swell' outside of an injury context.

Still, she didn't let that throw her. She shook Raven's hand and said, "I think they like to have the siblings as kind of a buffer between the new kids and the, uh, more interesting aspects of school life. So if you have any questions at any point, fire away and I'll do my best to give you an answer without crumbling under the pressure."

"Is there really a pink pony?" Raven asked, still not entirely having believed her eyes on that one. "And does she always drive the bus?"

Bay was officially not a new kid anymore, and she was even going to have a school-sanctioned little brother to prove it. She made sure her nametag was nicely decorated and visible and then waited for Theo.

She wouldn't even try to break him too badly.

Ange and Dev were being loud already but they were being considerate and keeping it to a low level so far. They hadn't started arguing. Theo figured that'd come soon.

He slipped his way through the crowd and spotted a nametag with a familiar name and made his way over.

"She's hot!" Dev said, causing Ange to groan.

"That's not what we're here for, Dev. Stay focused."

"Uh, hey," Theo said, nodding at her nametag. "I think I'm supposed to be your sibling or something."

"Looks like it," Bay agreed. "Welcome to the family. Was your trip in okay?"

She figured if he started talking about seeing a dinosaur at the airport or something, he already had some sense this school was not like other places.

"It wasn't anything special," Theo told her, shrugging his shoulders. "The food sucked and they nearly lost one of my bags."

So, pretty typical for air travel.

"But, I'm here so couldn't have been too bad."

"Sounds like it could have been a lot worse," Bay nodded, with a bit of a laugh out of nerves. "So, any particular reason you're here or did boarding school just sound like fun? Or is that a nosy question?"

She'd ease into the weird stuff. Yes.

Gert had an assigned sibling this time, so she made sure to look out for an Alexandra Jones. And because she was nice, she had Old Lace keep her distance for a bit; if the kid had trouble buying all the Fandom stuff, she could always have her dinosaur come on over as an example of how weird things were, but she didn't want to spook this new girl unnecessarily right from the get-go.

Alex wasn't sure what to think of this big sibling program, but she wasn't going to be outright dismissive of it. Besides, she'd never had siblings before. This could be interesting.

"Hi," she said as she approached the other girl. She made sure to smile. "I think you might be my big sibling?"

"That's me," Alex confirmed. "So, you're gonna be a guide of some kind? Seems like a good way to get introduced to this place, huh?"

Someone had directed Snow over to the information tables, and she was still in a daze. Everything was so strange, and yet she somehow had been expected. There'd been a name tag waiting for her, and a list of the classes she'd been assigned to. None of this made sense. But for the moment, at least, she was happy to be free to move about wherever she wanted. She wasn't sure how long it would last.

She'd always wanted a brother or sister, so she looked around to find the one this strange school had allegedly assigned to her.

First there had been no name for her to look after, but after getting Snow White...well, Emily was ready for anything.

She spotted the dark haired girl with relative ease, mostly because of her clothes. She already felt this was going to be something. "Hello, Snow White? I'm Emily Thorne. You look like you could use some explanations, so shoot away."

"Hello," Snow said, relieved to have found her sibling. "And . . . yes. This place is unlike any other I have ever been."

And she hadn't seen anything yet.

"I'm still not sure how I got here or why."

"Oh, you have seen nothing yet." It was almost required of her to say that.

"It might have involved a portal. I happen to work for the company that works with the technology that lets people move from one...world, let's call it, to another, but sometimes they just appear out of the blue."

Emily smiled sympathetically. "Let's start from the beginning; how is your world like? I can point the main differences from there," Emily said, without knowing that might take a while.

"Technology," Snow said. The word was unfamiliar to her tongue. "It was a circle of blue light that brought me here. The magpies led me to it."

She was silent for a moment before she could answer Emily's question about her world. "When my father ruled, Tabor was a beautiful land," she said. "The fields would ripen with crops each fall, and the people were happy. But now that Queen Ravenna rules, the land is dead, and the people suffer. Even the castle is crumbling." Except for the walls-those had still been strong.

Sia had done this before, so she made sure that her nametag was clearly displayed and that she was looking friendly enough as she went looking for someone named Anya.

A little bit of wandering got Anya towards...someone who looked just like someone she had met on her way there because there were only four students. Still, she could tell they were different somehow. Hopefully.

"Hey, Marasiah right?" Anya asked as she waved a hand.

"Yep, that's me. And my trip was cool, thanks," Anya replied, matching the smile. Because that's what you did, right?

"Well, the last part was...different. A pink pony drove the shuttle."
