Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Whoever worked their magic to ensure that the welcome picnics had nice weather had cut their mojo very close this time around. The weather was lovely today - sunny and hot enough to make it clear that summer in Fandom had finally begun - but the overnight thunderstorms had left puddles all over the lawn that hadn't quite dried up yet.

Still, the tables and chairs had managed to be scattered around, along with the buffet table of moddable food and drinks, and the information table with name tags, the Big and Little Sibling list, and the list of new roommates. The only thing missing was people to enjoy the festivities!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

The two entities in Theo's head perked up at that. They were interested for different reasons, of course.

"Strange things?" Theo asked, arching his eyebrows. "Like...snow in July?"

"That could totally happen," Bay said. "Or ... like, just for example, you might wake up a girl tomorrow."

Ange and Dev were raptly listening. If they had notepads, Theo was sure they'd be taking notes (okay, Ange would be taking notes and Dev would just be staring).

"That...happens?" he asked. His eyebrows were hitting his hairline now. "Yeah, I think that qualifies as strange."

Okay, then.

"Duh," Bay agreed. "Usually you stay an innie or an outie, right? And then there are people with freaky powers or from space or whatever."

A pause. "Um, if you have powers, I don't mean you're a freak. Just that it's freaky when you aren't used to it. Like me."

It was good not to insult the new kids.

"Also there's a pink pony. She talks."

Theo wasn't sure if having Ange and Dev meant he had powers. It's not like he could fly or go invisible or anything super cool like that.

"This is plenty cool, Theodore," Ange said as if on cue.

"Flying would be cooler," Dev said, sounding bored.

"I don't think my parents knew that when they decided I should come here," he said with a little chuckle. "Their brochures and internet research probably didn't tell them all this."

"I know mine didn't," Bay said. "We thought it was more about self-paced, beautiful campus, small classes, blah blah blah. And also no uniforms, which was a plus. But for what it's worth, the people are really cool, and..." She shrugged. "I stuck around for the summer, right?"

"And got stuck with me," Theo said with another laugh. "How unlucky for you."

"You don't seem that bad," Bay said, smiling. "But I've known you like three minutes. You might be hiding the bad parts."

Oh, the bad parts. He didn't know what she'd consider his tagalongs but he wasn't in an immediate rush to find out. It'd come out sooner or later.

"Do I look like I'd do that?" Don't judge a book by its cover, Bay! Or do because that's smart.

"I think everybody does that," Bay said honestly. "Like, no one goes up to a stranger and says, 'hi, here are all the ways I'm crazy, be my friend.' But I don't think you do it any more than everybody else."

"Yeah, if I'm crazy, I'll save it until...at least the second week," Theo joked. "Give people time to get used to me."

"Probably for the best," Bay said, with a wise little pat to his shoulder. "So, anything I can tell you about the school? Dorm life, where to buy beer, all the nothing there is to do in town?"

That was a pretty good summary right there, Theo though. Of course, Dev started pushing him to ask about the beer and Ange tried to make him tell Bay he wasn't a drinker.

He wasn't so he went with that. "I don't drink. Well, I drink but not beer. I prefer soda and water. Beer looks gross."

Dev groaned inside his head.

"Yeah, it's not everybody's thing," Bay nodded. "But if people try to tell you about the bar that doesn't card, it's Caritas."
