Heroing [Tuesday, period 2, class #2]

"Hello, class!" Captain Hammer bellowed as soon as everyone was seated. "Today, we're going to talk about sounding heroic. In order to strike true fear into your nemesis...es. Nemesiseses. Nemisi...." He shook his head. "Bad people you fight! In order to strike fear into their hearts, they need to hear you coming. Now, some people believe in 'battlecries.'"

Captain Hammer's use of airquotes didn't necessarily indicate any sarcasm. It more indicated that he didn't know how to use airquotes.

"Which are fine and good. I prefer to just speak loudly at every opportunity! Some heroes like to sing, and that's fine too. Other heroes like to...talk to their villains. And a lot of villains talk back." He shook his head. "They think they're 'witty.' Anyway, class! Your job today is to pair up and hold a heroic conversation! Do it loudly! Sing if you want! Use catch phrases! 'Banter!' Just be heroic while you talk to each other!"

[OCD is coming up, lol forgot to strike this out.]

Yelling at each other? Really? Romeo hummed a little to clear his throat as he looked for someone to work with.

"Hey!" Hannibal yelled. "Make like a tree and leave!"

That was sort of a catchphrase.

"You shout," Romeo returned with a kind of friendly glare, "yet you say nothing, fool."

"I know you are but what am I?" Hannibal shout back sharply. "I am the hero!"

"And if thee called thyself a carp, that would not make thee one," Romeo countered. "But let me name you. I'll name you a pig, and a dog, and a pig-dog, but none of your 'hero.' "

He might have been having a little bit too much fun with this.

"Only girls talk like that!" Hannibal decided. "Are you a girl? I think you're a giiiiiiiirl!"

Catchphrases, too? Ben smirked as he tried to imagine his dad doing well, any of this, as he looked around for a partner.

Dean was having similar thoughts and was smirking too. "I don't think Dad subscribes to this form of heroing."

"Can you imagine?" Ben said, giggling and standing a lot like Captain Hammer. "Halt, evildoer!" he cried. "Let me stand here chatting while you get a decent shot off!"

Dean snickered. He struck a pose himself. "Hey ghost! I'm going to stand here telling you to stop haunting while giving you plenty of opportunity to throw me into a convenient wall!"

"Let me take a moment to fix my hair and then come after you, fiend!" Ben replied.

Adam really didn't know what kind of catchphrases he was going to come up with, but he was sure they'd be interesting.

"BEGONE, FOUL VILLAIN!" Sokka announced, standing on the chair next to Adam with his hands on his hips. "I'm-a count to three, and then you'll face the wrath of my steely, steely JUSTICE!!!"

Adam had enough self-control to not laugh. He had to give it to Sokka. That was pretty good.

"Villains beware, the Green Ranger is here." He was trying, okay? And wow, he actually managed to say that with a straight face!

[Off to work soon. SP is love!]

"Aww, did you come up with that yourself?" Sokka asked. He wasn't trying to be mean, just getting into character, but... Okay, well, no, he WAS trying to be mean. But because he thought he should, not because he had anything against Adam. "I sure hope so, because in this battle of witty repartee, you's gonna get BUOIEEAT!!!" The vowels in the word "beat" really didn't deserve to be tortured in that way, especially not when accompanied by the vaguely rude hand-waving he was doing.

Warren wasn't sure if he could come up with catchphrases. Maybe he'd just threaten to fry people to a crisp, some more.

Yeah. He could do that.

"Here I come to save the day!" Robin sang. Yeah it needed work. And originality, he was aware of that, but he hadn't had a chance to write anything yet.

Also even when he was loud he was kinda quiet.

"And what, pray tell, is it that you're saving the day from?" The fact that there was a green, fuzzy frog speaking to Warren only struck him as mildly strange. Really, Robin should have seen some of the guys in Warren's last school.

He quirked an eyebrow and waited for a reply. Warren really didn't do heroic conversation well. Believe it or not, this was him making the attempt.

"Why evil doers of course!" Robin said, abandoning the singing for now. He was trying for dramatic inflection now.

Warren stood there, staring down at the little frog for a moment before actually speaking again.

"I don't see any evildoers around here," he noted. "Are you sure you have the right classroom?"

. . . well, Tahiri reflected, at least she'd never had any problem talking.

If it came down to it she'd just resort to other languages. Because it wasn't like the Yuuzhan Vong weren't fond of yelling things in fights.

Helen looked for a partner to... yell at, she guessed.

Jess wasn't sure how this was going to go, but he liked yelling, so at least the possibility of this going well was there.

Momoko was still trying to understand how being loud would help in a fight against bad guys. She looked around for a partner in the hopes that the excercise would make it clearer.
