Heroing [Tuesday, period 2, class #2]

"Hello, class!" Captain Hammer bellowed as soon as everyone was seated. "Today, we're going to talk about sounding heroic. In order to strike true fear into your nemesis...es. Nemesiseses. Nemisi...." He shook his head. "Bad people you fight! In order to strike fear into their hearts, they need to hear you coming. Now, some people believe in 'battlecries.'"

Captain Hammer's use of airquotes didn't necessarily indicate any sarcasm. It more indicated that he didn't know how to use airquotes.

"Which are fine and good. I prefer to just speak loudly at every opportunity! Some heroes like to sing, and that's fine too. Other heroes like to...talk to their villains. And a lot of villains talk back." He shook his head. "They think they're 'witty.' Anyway, class! Your job today is to pair up and hold a heroic conversation! Do it loudly! Sing if you want! Use catch phrases! 'Banter!' Just be heroic while you talk to each other!"

[OCD is coming up, lol forgot to strike this out.]

Warren wasn't sure if he could come up with catchphrases. Maybe he'd just threaten to fry people to a crisp, some more.

Yeah. He could do that.

"Here I come to save the day!" Robin sang. Yeah it needed work. And originality, he was aware of that, but he hadn't had a chance to write anything yet.

Also even when he was loud he was kinda quiet.

"And what, pray tell, is it that you're saving the day from?" The fact that there was a green, fuzzy frog speaking to Warren only struck him as mildly strange. Really, Robin should have seen some of the guys in Warren's last school.

He quirked an eyebrow and waited for a reply. Warren really didn't do heroic conversation well. Believe it or not, this was him making the attempt.

"Why evil doers of course!" Robin said, abandoning the singing for now. He was trying for dramatic inflection now.

Warren stood there, staring down at the little frog for a moment before actually speaking again.

"I don't see any evildoers around here," he noted. "Are you sure you have the right classroom?"

Robin looked around. "Hmm, good point. Of course, given that there's so many heroes in here, it would be silly of an evil doer to show their face!"

"Very silly," Warren agreed, crossing his arms over his chest. "Stupid, even. If one showed up, I'd have to... burn them. Or something."

He did that much well, at least. "And you could... hop on them?"

"It worked on the Velociraptors." Robin said proudly. He managed to suppress a shudder at the memory.

"I missed the velociraptors," Warren noted, and yes, that was an air of disappointment in his voice. Raptors would have been fun. "Every time something big hits the island, I'm usually at work."

"And they avoid your place of business? Your reputation must scare them off."

At that, Warren had to raise an eyebrow.

"I have a reputation?"

Interesting.

Robin had no idea, but he had no other explanation for why the various invading things would not have bothered Warren at work.

"You must have."

"Maybe it's the dishes," Warren mused. "They have that effect on people."

A pause.

"They talk."

"That might be it." Robin said. "I myself have scared a few people, simply for being a talking Frog."

"What a stupid reason to be afraid of someone," Warren grunted, and then he gave his head a shake. "What do they think you're going to do? Talk them to death?"

Seriously. People were dumb.

"So. You're here to be a hero, huh? What prompted that?"

"And you could probably fit into ventilation systems," Warren added. Because that was an important factor to take into consideration while heroing.

A long pause. And then a shrug.

"Okay. Let's act heroic, then. Evildoers beware."

This was all said, of course, in a somewhat flat tone. If Warren had his way, he would be able to do the superhero thing without all the witty banter.

Robin was sure, from the comics he'd read, that there was indeed room for that kind of hero.

"Ooh, good point!" Robin said. Now he was tempted to go exploring. "Yes! Evildoers beware!" Muppets were very good at being over the top and silly, without acting like they were being over the top or silly.

The unintentional over the top and silly almost made Warren crack a smirk, there. Almost.

"You just don't mess with a frog who can take out a velociraptor and a guy who works with talking knives for a living." Not to mention the whole spontaneous combustion thing.

"You certainly don't." Robin agreed. "And we are only a sample of what Fandom has to offer!"
