Care for Magical Creatures; Period One. [ 11/10 ]

Today was a very exciting day for the class, indeed, as today was the day that their eggs were going to hatch! The danger shop classroom was stocked to the teeth with anything at all that might need to be available, from things to feed the little creatures with to weapons just in case they do end up quite hostile to flame retardant cloaks and squeaky little chew toys!

"Good morning, class!" Minsc greeted them. "Please go and care for your egg until they hatch and be prepared for whatever may come out! I have no better idea than you, so today should be a very interesting class! Be prepared for anything, as such is the way with magical creatures!"

Minsc means it when he says that anything might come out of that thing! Make some last minute time to bond with the egg before discovering if you've endeared it enough that it can discern you from food when it comes out.

As much as it was a travesty to interrupt the jaunty little rhymes, the egg started to shake a little and, with a sort of struggled sound from inside, started to thump and clatter with the sounds of something inside attempting to break free.

Jeff was mildly clinging to his egg. Whether this was to impose good feelings on it, or because he was terrified it would hatch and eat him if he let go, was unclear.

As Jeff was clinging mildly to the egg, it started to move around, shifting, almost vibrating, in a way that was definitely not mild at all.

As Jo stood on the ready, her egg started to move around a little, whatever was inside obviously attempting to make its way out. A sharp crack suddenly split open in the thing, about an inch, and the struggle to get it past there seemed significant.

Luckily, it didn't seem like it needed little more than an inch, as, with wings still curled up, a small fairy head peeked out of the crack, looking around with wide, wide eyes.

Mac was stroking her egg cautiously. That was endearing... right?

It might have been endearing or soothing or perhaps even endearing. It was definitely something, though, because not long after Mac started stroking the egg, it started shifting, shaking, and moving. There was a tapping sound, and then, suddenly, a crack quickly broke out over the surface.

Ed made sure the bedding for the egg was cradling it properly. He definitely hadn't endeared it enough, at least in his mind.

After a moment, as it sat in its very suffiencient bedding, the egg started to move around slightly, held in place by the cushioning. A slight tapping came from the bottom of the egg, a scratching from the side, and then, finally, with a sudden thunk, the egg split open, and the head of something that looked like a little lion cub started to poke out from the crevasse as it opened a little further.

The singing must have been working quite nicely, as it didn't take long for the egg to start rocking a little, little tapping sounds hitting the sides in the attempt of something inside waking up and trying to get through.

Helen had spent so much time with her egg, that in a way it would be sad to lose it. She sang quietly to it as she had so often done and wondered what it would hatch into.

Singing was always good for little hatchings. The thing started to move about a bit, little sounds of tapping going coming from inside.

A...lot of tapping. Whatever was in there, it managed to tap quite a few of the sides all at once.

And then, suddenly, the egg didn't so much as slowly crack, but burst open slightly, opening a gap that filled the air with the hissing sound of a fog.

Ella cuddled her egg as closely as she could manage without breaking it, singing an Ayorthian lullaby in a low voice.

The eggs did seem to like singing an awful lot and, while Ella held it, it wasn't long before the egg started rolling around, whatever it was inside making the attempts to break on out, almost as if called by the sound of her voice.

Marco was ready to bolt in case whatever hatched turned out to like humans for desert. What? He knew his luck.

The egg started to move, and it moved so much, back and forth, that it seemed like it wasn't so much being eaten that Marco would have to worry about, but an explosion, and then the egg suddenly split open; pieces of the shell peeled away and dropped to the ground, shattering, as the creature inside, a small, tiny blue dragon, woke up, pushing away its containment with the spread of its wings, mouth opened as he yawned.

Or maybe tried to let out a fearsome roar, but was far too wee tiny to accomplish it.

Aravis, tender parent that she was, was sort of gently petting her egg mostly because she was too scared to cuddle it or anything, lest it hatch all over her.

And, okay, maybe she was singing a little song to it. Shhh.

Whatever she was doing, it seemed to be working, because it wasn't long at all that the egg started to gentle rock back and forth. There was a knocking sound, soft but increasing in strength, on the side. Finally, a crack appeared; it started to get bigger, opening up, and, before whatever was inside could completely emerge, small green snakes started slithering out from the opening, hissing up a storm.

Harry once the mun remembered to tag into the important thread in the post gave the egg a few more pats. This was still going okay. If only all technology was so nice to him as this room.
