Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, Saturday, All Day

So, it wasn't Fall yet by a long shot. The temperatures were still high, the leaves were still green, and the calendar still said August. But the calendar of consumerism didn't care about reality and thus, the welcome picnic was decorated for fall. The tables were covered in reds, oranges, and yellows, there was apple cider in the punch bowls and, of course, if the food on the table could come in pumpkin spice form, it was here in pumpkin spice form.

Okay, well, Erasmus still hadn't been kicked out, and Gaia, that was a lot of food. A bit unseasonable, but...he wasn't going to say no.

He really hoped they had sweet tea somewhere around here.

Stark had been advised that talking to new people might be wise, and this one looked new. New and maybe hungry?

Just because the picnic had decided it was time for autumn didn't mean Lydia had to. Give her just a little more time with her summer frocks, weather, please and thank you.

She was positively craning her neck as she went about the picnic, looking for both her friends and anyone new.

Eventually, Henry piled a ton of food onto a plate, and settled somewhere into a corner to eat.

He was taking this second go-around with much more calm and composure than the last, he felt. A full stomach could only help.

Arden's mun was larping most of the day and so wouldn't be around much was of course there, in her usual denim cutoffs and tank top ensemble.

Look, if she didn't show up, who was going to make sure there was proper Southern sun tea to drink at the picnic? Sure, sure 'whoever puts this whole thing together.' Except all y'all* were pretty much Yankees, which was why she needed to make sure it was done right.

[*This designation did not apply to either Raiden or Remy, who could also be trusted to make proper sun and/or sweet tea.]

Luma was mostly here to eat, people watch, sit with her sister until her sister wandered off to talk to her friends, and contemplate on no longer being 'the new girl' in all of this. Drifting between being excited for what might lie ahead and wondering if all of this was some foolish lark that she shouldn't have even bothered with between bites. Gazing thoughtfully into the concept of the future between sips of cider.

Which was all very normal things to run through a person's mind at a picnic, right? Well. Luma wouldn't have any idea...

Despite what Luma might expect, Eleanor had no plans to abandon her sister here at the picnic, and would likely sit with her through most of it, until Luma herself drifted (or most likely stomped) off on her own.

Her own contemplation while eating revolved around trying to figure out ways to encourage Luma to be more social without making it obvious. If she made it too obvious, Luma would just get mad at her,even if she was just trying to help.

Free food? Hell yeah. Riri was there, making too big of a plate before things got taken away for the end of the event.

Look. Someone had been to more than a few events at MIT and knew the score. You grabbed things before they ran out.

She'd seemed cool earlier but maybe now she'd decided to pretend she didn't know him! He didn't know! Had to allow for all possibilities!

After Raiden had, ah, disposed of the giant mayo gummy bear at Over Easy, he'd done one last sweep through the restaurant to make sure everything was running smoothly before he left for the picnic.

That giant mayo gummy bear was already wearing off, after all. He was gonna be hungry again soon.

Gray was here, and keeping up the shirtless traditions.

Gray also might be asleep in an ungainly pile of limbs somewhere. You never knew. Just step over him or something?

Tony and a truly massive coffee from the Starbucks in the lobby of his building were there at the picnic to keep an eye out for anyone who might be from home. It wasn't as frequent anymore, but it never hurt to keep an eye out!

Also, the food was pretty good. So.

Charlie was here, cheerful as always, with her guitar slung across her back as usual - though she'd toyed with the idea of bringing her mandolin for a change. Free buffet food was always great and at some point she'd undoubtedly be playing said guitar.

Anakin had ditched the mini bus, chalked up another successful, non-Krampus return of students, and then gone home to retrieve his kids (and Jaina's, who'd been staying for the week) and bring them to the park for free lunch.

Absolutely killing this responsible adult thing today!

And while he was doing that he could look around to get an idea of what they were dealing with in terms of new kids. Multitasking!

Steve's coffee wasn't quite as massive as Tony's, but it was still helping him get through the jet lag from Europe as he glanced around the park.

Billie was from California. She almost never got traditional fall weather when the fall aesthetic was around. So this picnic seemed most thematic and not at all a source of cognitive dissonance to her.

Well. Except one thing:

Picnic day was the best day in Cal's mind, because there was enough free food to keep him going all day. Hopefully, anyone who wanted to chat with him wouldn't mind doing it while he was inhaling from his plate.

Belle was curious to see what new faces might be around this time. Students or teachers, though she hadn't seen any unfamiliar names on listed as teaching.

Belle was also here to mingle and eat because these picnics would never fail to delight.

Stark had stopped, years ago, hoping that familiar faces might pop up at these picnics. It just seemed too unlikely.

But he still enjoyed coming to them. The food was always good (and yes, he liked pumpkin spice) and it was social and friendly.

Jon had done his best to fill up on trauma ahead of a big party and possibly new people, which meant he only looked moderately sleep-deprived and unrumpled - more academic on a research binge than strung-out.

He had a cup of tea from the Perk in one hand, and was eyeing the food table trying to find anything that looked appetizing.

Rey liked the picnics and you never knew when you might see someone from home, so she got some apple cider to assist her in people watching.

It was a little weird. It was pumpkin spice season but not apple cider season yet. Did that make sense?
