Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, Saturday, All Day

So, it wasn't Fall yet by a long shot. The temperatures were still high, the leaves were still green, and the calendar still said August. But the calendar of consumerism didn't care about reality and thus, the welcome picnic was decorated for fall. The tables were covered in reds, oranges, and yellows, there was apple cider in the punch bowls and, of course, if the food on the table could come in pumpkin spice form, it was here in pumpkin spice form.

"Steve," Don said with a salute of his own coffee in return. "Having a good one?"

"Yes," Steve said. "I took the dogs for a very long walk this morning so they wouldn't tear the house apart while we came here. They're excited to be back from Rhodey and Carol's."

"I thought the tower was too peaceful," Don teased, or maybe just observed.

Steve laughed. "Our gift to you," he teased back.

"Thanks," Don said. "It's almost a shame I wasn't home much to enjoy it. Did you guys enjoy Europe?"

"We did," Steve said. "We split our time between Dublin and Paris after Tony got it into his head to buy a Parisian bakery."

"I wish I could say I was surprised," Don said, "but. Tony. So which one did you buy?"

"One on Rue du Bac in the 7th Arrondissement," Steve said with a rueful smile and shake of his head. "We're working on the weekly croissant delivery order and I'm trying to get them to add more chocolate to the chocolate croissants, but the baker pretends that he doesn't understand me."

"How's their almond croissant game?" Don asked. "Asking for a friend." The friend was Thor.

"Their almond croissants are amazing," Steve admitted readily.

"Yeah, you're gonna need to order extra of those. For the big guy." He figured that his not meaning Bruce would be obvious from context clues.

"I'll add it to the order," Steve said. "Do you have any requests?"

"I mean, I also wouldn't say no to an almond croissant." Fancy that. "I just can't eat so many." He had but one normal human stomach, Steve.

Steve laughed. "I ate so many almond croissants," he admitted.

"Of course you did," Don agreed. "And I'd bet some of those pain au chocolats too, even if they did need more chocolate."

"How could I tell they needed more chocolate unless I tried them?" Steve agreed. "We even found a place that sold those weird creampuffs stacked on top of each other that they pretend look like nuns!"

Steve was probably 50 percent butter by volume right now.

"I don't know what you're talking about but I'm willing to learn."

"I took a picture," Steve said proudly, holding out his phone. "Then I ate their little nun heads."

"Sometimes they have coffee cream inside," Steve said with an eager smile. "They're so good."

"And you didn't bring me one back?" That was hurtful, Steve. Don wanted to eat a weird nun pastry full of coffee cream.

"They don't really travel that well," Steve said. "I'll get Tony to work on a nun box."

"You're not," Don said, and then paused, trying to say this delicately. No, screw it, too important to not have clarity on. "You're not going to let Tony make the pastries, are you?"

Steve burst out laughing. "No, Tony doesn't get to make these. He can make Pop Tarts."
