Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

The lawn was arranged with tables and chairs - some near the food, some not - and there was plenty of food to go around. The school had even wised up and put to-go boxes by the plates, so people didn't have to put food in their pockets to take it with them for later. No one was gonna judge you for making some pocket bacon, but at least now it wasn't a necessity.

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Okay then," Mae said. She knew that tone. She'd used it a time or two herself. "Darn tootin'. Damn the man. Et cetera."

"Anyway," Sparkle said, "the actual namesake is way cooler. The last owner was half demon."

He kinda liked Callie. She'd hired him and hadn't, like, eaten his soul. Real stand-up demon type.

"Big white boxes that are cold inside," Sparkle offered. Yeah, he'd kind of figured there'd be at least a few of those. "There's one in every common room."

"Why is everyone around here obsessed with demons?" Mae wondered.

Her new roommate had said people would think she was a demon. What the hell?

Just wait until he learned about how fucking awesome indoor plumbing was. Just you wait.

"Riiight." Look, he was doing his best at not going mad at the revelation or some Lovecraftian shit about being in the future.

Sidon was, of course, as usual, on the hunt for new faces, and, having found one such face taking full advantage of the plethora of consumables for the taking at the buffet tables, he had to grin and swing over to make his acquaintance.

"If you haven't yet," said the very large and very red psuedo-shark person with a grin that had far too many teeth, "might I suggest you try the pizza? It is absolutely one of my favorite highlights of any of these marvelous social gatherings!"

Literally the only thing preparing him for this was the fact that his, unfortunately, non-hallucinatory roommate was a talking cat person.

But even then, his hand went to his whip out of reflex. "What's pizza?" he went with because WHAT THE FUCK ELSE WAS HE SUPPOSED TO SAY IN THE FACE OF ALL THAT kinda hot SHARKMAN-NESS?

"I'm really not obsessed," Sparkle replied with a shrug. "Just giving credit where it's due. She did have me on her payroll for a while, there."

Anyway, he was probably way more fixated on, like, superheroes anyway.

Entrapta's hair reached out and caught the bundle before it could hit her. "Ooooh," she said, examining each of them. Camouflage for the social experiment! Wonderful. "Thank you!" she called, waving at him.

Yes, with her hair. Look, it was how she did most things.

She was pretty sure she could resist a cult, but it would still suck pretty hard.

"More nuts, then."

Hey, it could happen.

"They don't pay me to do assessments or anything."

Sparkle gave her a grin and a thumbs-up! Either in lieu of a 'you're welcome,' or because her hair was just that fucking awesome.

Possibly both.

Knowing Sparkle, definitely both.

It was for the best. Mae had left him with a disdain for therapists. Because 'manly' ways of dealing with trauma.

"I can live with that." Because he had to.

Mae peered at him suspiciously.

"Alright," she decided. "If you'd just denied it flat out, I would have said that's exactly what a cultist would say. But you didn't, so . . . I guess I can believe you.

"For now."

If she ended up in a cult, Sparkle, she was going to blame you.

Beau stopped trying to devour a cheeseburger slider and gave him a look that was half amused, half ‘are you for real?’

“‘m fine, dude, chill,” she said, which to be fair she would have said if she had two broken limbs and half her blood missing. “What, do I not look like it?”

Yeah, but she probably had a more competent healer around than he did. Wait. Couldn't monks do that shit? His only other monk experience was also a cop in a Fast and Furious death race.

"Well, you put bacon in your pockets. Do you need money? I'm pretty sure I have some saved up from the last guy I looted."

He didn't understand that teaching earned him a paycheck.

Lana was here, curious to meet the new students and see some of the others again.

She picked over the food, looking for good things, then sat at a table and watched.

Jack was leaning against a tree with her best bored expression. Which meant she was trying to be approachable and friendly. She was situated where she could see newcomers and watching for one face in particular. So help her, if that asshole didn't show up, she was going to just go kick his door in.

In the meanwhile there were other people to watch. Size up. Maybe ogle here and there.

Tattooed nightmare teacher on deck.

She almost didn't notice the Asari. She'd seen the other blue kid so when a flash of blue caught her eye, Jack almost dismissed it before her brain caught up and jerked her attention right back.

Jack sauntered over. "What the hell's an Asari doing on Earth? Slumming?" Other people might've made small talk about the weather or the people but Jack was terrible at small talk. The tone was friendly enough and she was honestly curious.

She hadn’t even met the first of her party’s healers yet, and anyway while Jester was perfectly competent at it she also got grumbly about using her spell slots for healing when she could be using them to fuck shit up because she was basically battle Mercy, and Caduceus was going to be way more effective at healing people after they got knocked out. You know, when he wasn’t almost getting killed himself because the universe seemed like it was out to do that.

. . . she did have a healer’s kit on her, though, along with like a thousand ball bearings. And now pocket bacon!

“I’m good, dude,” Beau insisted, still giving him that weird amused look. “It’s just, it’s bacon, right?”

What else were you supposed to do when you got access to bacon but hoard it?

“Nice sweater, though, man, I like it.” Sleeves were bullshit, okay? It was supposed to be a compliment! Even if she sounded more sarcastic than genuine.
