Library, Friday

From the way things had sounded on the radio, Billy had a feeling he'd have more visitors than usual today. So, he spent the early part of his shift making sure the library was in order, putting books back where they belonged and checking for anything strange - typically strange, not new!strange. He was kind of hoping there wouldn't be any of that today, but he also knew how far hope usually got people here.

Jamie entered the library and gave it a long look trying to figure out what was different from now than in the future.

For the most part it looked the same except it was slightly less musty smelling.

After getting his bearings Jamie headed over to the front desk to talk to the adorable one the clerk about where he could find the information he needed.

Hopefully Billy isn't too traumatized by seeing his old teacher from an alternate universe.

"Pardon me," Jamie said approaching the desk. "Could you tell me where your books are on preventing future dystopias?"

Because the library totes has a section on that, right?

"Huh," Jamie said looking pensive. "You'd think with all the young adult books published around now they'd write one non-fictional book on how to prevent kids from being shoved into culture where they're killed from being different by an oppressive government. Oh, well."

Jamie sighed.

"In that case, where do you keep your Meta for Archie comics?"

Research on a new place was always important. God, Kenzi loved libraries. Free, full of information, and usually stocked with things that could distract a toddler. Mia was peering around from her spot on Kenzi's hip, looking interested.

"Hey, dude. Children's section?"

Kenzi's eyebrows hit her hairline. "No, this is a kid. Mine. Why, does it matter?"

"Hi!" Mia leaned forward to offer a high-five to the nice man.

"'Kay, same question I asked the guy yesterday:" Joker addressed him. "You got any magic librarian mojo that can point us to the right books?"

Celia really couldn't believe how long it'd taken her to get here, all things considered. While she was drifting quietly in class this morning, the thought had suddenly occurred to her that she wasn't entirely helpless, that there was something she could do -- she could look for an answer.

And in a library this size? It had to be here somewhere.

So from late morning onwards, Celia was hunched over texts at a corner table. She only stopped at one point to re-secure her hair in its pink ribbon (which matched her rose-colored dress perfectly), but otherwise was engrossed in reading everything she could that might lead to an answer -- any answer.

"Well, don't you look adorable today!" Joker greeted her. "Any luck finding anything?"

"Nothing so far," Celia admitted, rubbing her eyes as she glanced up. And then her face dropped when she noticed his legs. "Oh, no. Not you, too?"

If Elizabeth rubbed at her eyes every now and again, it... honestly had nothing to do with sleeping in the library. Which she hadn't done - that would be silly, wouldn't it?

She was definitely hanging over this book with all her strength, though, and glanced up only when Tamsin and Bo arrived.

Joker looked over at her with a bit of concern. "Hey, hey... Pretty eyes shouldn't be so tired. Get yourself a nap -- the rest of us can handle finding absolutely nothing useful on our own for a little while. Or at least grab some caffeine."

She looked up at him with a little confused smile. "Caffeine--" Elizabeth started. Then it dawned on her. "Oh! Coffee! I'd forgotten... thank you." She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. "It's been a while, I'm sorry."

Jamie was doing no research whatsoever. Nope. Not a bit.

He was reading comic books.

"Oh, Jughead. Will you ever get full?"

Joker recognized a kindred spirit, but apparently one who had no sense of when to rein it in and focus.

"Dude. Seriously? Now is not the time."

Sparkle had mentioned odd things going on, and coupled with some of the oddities he'd noticed for himself just today...

The last time things had gone so odd, the library had been the place to get answers, so Hannibal was here, looking for answers again. Even if it was only comparing notes with other people.

Joker sized him up. He was a teacher, but Joker didn't remember what he taught. He had a cerebral look about him, though, which was a very good sign. "You... look like a scientist. Please say you're a scientist?"

Except for class, Joker spent most of the day poring through musty old tomes like everyone else.

There was one outburst in the late afternoon when he roared, knocked all the books off his table, and kicked one of them across the room. Aside from that, he was good.

"Nobody's dying out here, just getting pelted with...gears and springs and...watch hand?"

Bo, perched agitatedly on the corner of a table, glared at the empty air over her left shoulder, from which her own voice had emerged. "Yeah, yeah, we heard you the first time."

"Shit, crap, fu--" That wasn't Bo's voice, but though it sounded like Tamsin, it hadn't come from her mouth either. Not today. A couple of months ago? Different story entirely.

"Seriously, can't we turn this off?" Tamsin commented, annoyed. She'd... basically come along because she was sick of stupid phone calls from stupid humans obsessing about their stupid spouses turned tentacle monsters - not any sense of responsibility about anything.

"We broke time, yadda yadda yadda, move on."

"Okay ladies," Jamie said stepping up with a sketch pad. "I believe I know who the perpetrator who stole the device. He's known for traveling through time and may have stolen the device in order to finance his endless hunger for burgers."

He unrolled the sketch with a dramatic flair.

"Have either of you seen this person?" (http://www.archiecomics.com/Portals/0/jughead-sep-week2.jpg)
