Library, Friday

From the way things had sounded on the radio, Billy had a feeling he'd have more visitors than usual today. So, he spent the early part of his shift making sure the library was in order, putting books back where they belonged and checking for anything strange - typically strange, not new!strange. He was kind of hoping there wouldn't be any of that today, but he also knew how far hope usually got people here.

Sparkle had mentioned odd things going on, and coupled with some of the oddities he'd noticed for himself just today...

The last time things had gone so odd, the library had been the place to get answers, so Hannibal was here, looking for answers again. Even if it was only comparing notes with other people.

Joker sized him up. He was a teacher, but Joker didn't remember what he taught. He had a cerebral look about him, though, which was a very good sign. "You... look like a scientist. Please say you're a scientist?"

Cooking was science for hungry people, right?

"I'm a doctor," Hannibal reminded him. "A surgeon and a psychiatrist. What sort of scientist were you looking for?"

Joker shrugged. "Theoretical quantum physicist?" he suggested. "Cosmologist? Science-fiction author? Just... someone who'd have a better grasp on what we're dealing with. You're at least smart, though, right? Do you have any leads?"

"I am smart, yes," Hannibal answered dryly. "However I also have no idea where to start, I'm afraid."

"Well, that sucks," Joker grumbled. "Well, if you turn into an alternate-universe version of yourself who studies wormholes or whatever, let me know."

Hannibal bit back his annoyance at Joker's tone in favor of the more important issue there. "Wormholes? Is that what they're called?"

Sorry, Hannibal, that Joker was hoping you were something you're not?

Joker shrugged. "Yeah, I dunno, maybe. Rifts, portals, wormholes, something. Universes are getting thin and leaking. Someone has to know something, right?"

Hey, don't dismiss someone just 'cause they're not a theoretical physicist, you know!

"You seem to have some ideas as to the correct terminology," Hannibal pointed out. "With that, we have a place to start." He glanced at the stacks and started for where the physics books ought to be assuming there's some sort of LOC or Dewey or other logical system in place.

"My ideas all come from fiction, so don't expect them to be any good," Joker told him. "But if you wanna them as a starting point, you don't have to make the trek." He gestured at the pile of unread books on his table. "I mean, if you want."

Hannibal checked the spines on the books. They might be a good starting point. "What have you found so far?"
