The Library; Monday [ 10/20 ]

Cal realized that he could only convince himself that he wasn't really nervous for so long. All his efforts came crashing down when he managed to spill his coffee all over the desk and, in the scramble to clean it up, hit his head soundly from underneath, and then fell backwards only to smack his head against the wall as well.

And then, when he sat down, the chair fell out from underneath him.

Actually, once he finally did manage to sit down, button up his jacket in hopes to cover most of the coffee stain, and then cleaned up the desk, he told himself that maybe it wasn't nervousness after all at all! Fandom Weirdness! That had to be it! It was just Fandom giving him a bad, bad...really bad morning...

He let out a little groan, knowing he couldn't just hide under the desk, and waited for the oppression of his fate to just weigh him down completely and crush him.

His choice of reading material (http://www.amazon.com/Little-Book-Excuses-Jasmine-Birtles/dp/0752261541/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1224479819&sr=8-1) today had absolutely nothing to do with some of the company he was expecting today. Honestly.

Ino wasn't sure if she ought to have waited until after her class, but in the end, she was impatient enough that waiting just... wasn't happening.

"Morning!" she chirped, hot chocolate in hand and a bag from the Perk down on the desk. "Got you a muffin, wasn't sure what you like, blueberry okay?"

Cal lifted his eyes from his book to stare at Ino for a moment, unsure whether he was glad it could be done and over with, or if he was annoyed because he had almost no prep time to go and try to find out how to work his way out of this. He blinked, and then his eyes went to the muffin. He put a marker in his book, setting it on the desk as he straightened up from where he was leaning back in his chair.

"Blueberry's good," he admitted. If it was chocolate chip, he was likely to choke on one of the chips, considering how the rest of his morning was going so far. "Thanks."

That got a bit of a sheepish shrug. "No problem," Ino said, snagging a oatmeal-raisin muffin from the bag and contemplating where to sit. "I mean, really, it's rude to eat if the other person isn't eating too, you know? And, well, I was hungry."

"Oh, I see," Cal commented, with a nervous attempt at humor. "Here I thought you were just being nice to me, but, no, you just didn't want to be rude."

She wrinkled her nose at him. "I was being both," Ino informed him. "Not one or the other, okay?"

"Okay," Cal nodded, easily conceding the point because he didn't exactly want to start anything with Ino. Not right now. Not today. He reached into the bag to get the muffin that awaited him, setting it on the desk, next to where his coffee mug had spilled. He picked a little piece off to stick into his mouth, chewing it methodically, purely for show. He wasn't hungry; in fact, now that she was here and he was thinking about what he was planning on showing her, he was the opposite of hungry. He felt sick, in a way that introducing anything sweet like a muffin could spell disaster. But it was his turn not to be rude, by trying to eat at least a little bit, and, besides, if he didn't, he'd have to admit to Ino how he felt right now.

Maybe he could still get out of it; maybe that was the trick, and she wouldn't make him if he was sick.

Second Period -- 10/20.

Cal thought that the papers he spilled coffee on had finally dried, and then wondered how easily he could make the argument that the stains just gave it that...old parchment look.

Third Period -- 10/20.

He didn't even really like the stuff, but, after stubbing his toe three times on the same spot, Cal decided it was time for more coffee.

And he sat down with it very, very, very carefully.

Claire wandered in around midmorning, not sure she was in the right place. She wanted to take the SATs, not check out a book.

But. It was a library. Therefore, it was a place to study. Therefore, it was as good a place to start as anywhere else, and better than many. "Hey Cal," she said, sounding a little aimless as she stood before the counter. "Okay, this place is nicer than I would have expected."

"And it's huge," Cal muttered. "This doesn't even include whatever behind Special Collections."

And then, almost like an afterthought, he gave her a tired smile and added, "Hi, Claire."

"Did I walk in when you were in the middle of something?" she asked, scrunching her brow just slightly. He seemed sort of out of it.

Cal shook his head a little. "It's not even noon," he said, "and it's just been a really, really long day, that's all."

"That sucks," Claire said succinctly. "And we have the joy of parents' weekend this week, so you can't even say four days and then we rest."

To that, Cal could only give Claire a faint grin. "After the past two days I've had," he mused, "I'm actually looking forward to parents' weekend."

Not that he was a mama's boy, or anything (if anything, Tessie still considered Cal her daughter), but it would just be...really nice to see her right now. Especially now.

Lunch -- 10/20.

Cal's not risking going out today, so he was glad he brought a sandwich to munch on at the desk.

Fourth period -- 10/20.

Somehow, Cal had managed to take a little catnap after lunch. Turkey sandwich. And we all know what turkey does.

Fifth Period -- 10/20.

This day was almost over, thank God. Cal brushed up on his own Asian geography to kill some time.

Cal took a moment to shift, to go through his things and extract the neatly printed sheet. "It got some coffee spilled on it earlier," he explained, vaguely apologetic as he handed it over.

How in the world did it get to be 1;21 am already? Ugh.

Anyway, I'm at work for a good portion of the day; SP is loooooove like whoa.
