Journalism Class - Thursday September 29

The screens in Spider’s classroom this morning are showing various scenes from around the school and school grounds. Various students are in the study hall, walking between the buildings, arguing, making out… just another average morning.

Spider’s desk is covered in maps and there are semi-transparent displays clustered around him as he rummages. Before the desk, on an easel, is the following notice.

Students:

Today we’re going to discuss the student election process because, to date, I haven’t seen any process at all. Do the candidates have stated public platforms yet? Have there been debates scheduled? Do we have a date for the elections themselves? What, exactly, are the duties and powers for the various positions?

Discuss and/or ferret out the answers.





((OOC: There will be a later post regarding tomorrow’s field trip. I have to go back and check who signed up to go and whether they all really have turned in their permission slips. I also have to go back and respond to students in yesterday’s class because last night got a little out of hand so I didn’t get back to that – and my deepest apologies.))

Angela walks in and eyes the notice. Don't know, probably don't care, she thinks, and goes back to playing with her hair and doodling in her notebook.

Buffy slips into hr desk and looks around. She sees Angela and smiles.

"I see your friend Phoebe is running for the President of Student Body. What kind of person is she, I mean, really?"

Chloe comes in wearing her John and Cam punishment shirt, and looks up at the easel. Hmm. That's a good point. Of course, I think this is the first election the school's had, so I'm not surprise there are kinks to be ironed out.

Chihaya sees the obnoxious pink shirt and reads the front, breaking out into giggles before going back to his homework.

Jake comes shuffling in, carrying a coffee cup and looking bewildered. She goes to sit down at her usual place, placing the coffee cup on the desk before digging out her notebook.

Chihaya sees Beka, the girl from study hall yesterday and the gun debate. After a small hesitation, he goes over to the desk next to her and sits down. "Um, hi."

Rory comes in, bearing coffee.

"If anyone has questions about my campaign for Student Relations OFficer, please feel free to ask," she says, smiling. "Oh, and help yourself," she adds, waving to the cups.

Grabbing her notebook, Jake wanders over to Rory. In a low voice, "Those shoes... They don't have heels, do they?"

"Nice." Beka smiles at Rory. "Mind if I have a bit? I'm feeling very ... tired."

"What is that thing you're wearing?" Logan asks when he finally wanders into class.

Rogue slips in, handing the professor a typewritten letter. It explains her absence and is signed by one Charles Xavier. She smiles at Spider and takes a seat.

John slips in quietly, signs in and takes a seat in the back.

He's glad to see the issue of the elections brought up again and he starts making stream of conscious notes about how the student government president needs to be careful and not become simply a figurehead for the school.

Maia comes in. Drops into a seat in the back. "I think student elections are going fine" feels that this will be her participation for the day and struggles to stay awake due to a very long night.

*reads the notice, doesn't give a damn about the elections, but hangs for a few minutes anyway.*

I heard someone say that the elections were to be held two weeks after the nominations. As for the election, it's just another popularity contest, like this Homecoming King/Queen thing, to see which student out socializes another. Given that Principle Connors is the ultimate authority in the school and that the students fulfilling those offices are completely powerless, the whole thing seems an exercise in futility.
