Journalism Class - Thursday September 29

The screens in Spider’s classroom this morning are showing various scenes from around the school and school grounds. Various students are in the study hall, walking between the buildings, arguing, making out… just another average morning.

Spider’s desk is covered in maps and there are semi-transparent displays clustered around him as he rummages. Before the desk, on an easel, is the following notice.

Students:

Today we’re going to discuss the student election process because, to date, I haven’t seen any process at all. Do the candidates have stated public platforms yet? Have there been debates scheduled? Do we have a date for the elections themselves? What, exactly, are the duties and powers for the various positions?

Discuss and/or ferret out the answers.





((OOC: There will be a later post regarding tomorrow’s field trip. I have to go back and check who signed up to go and whether they all really have turned in their permission slips. I also have to go back and respond to students in yesterday’s class because last night got a little out of hand so I didn’t get back to that – and my deepest apologies.))

Angela walks in and eyes the notice. Don't know, probably don't care, she thinks, and goes back to playing with her hair and doodling in her notebook.

Buffy slips into hr desk and looks around. She sees Angela and smiles.

"I see your friend Phoebe is running for the President of Student Body. What kind of person is she, I mean, really?"

Angela tilts her head to one side as she thinks about the question.

"Phoebe is incredibly friendly, but I think she can be fierce when she's upset. She's assistant to the journalism teacher, and I know she's really dedicated to that, which is totally impressive. Last time I really talked to her, she had some family and guy drama going on, and I don't know how that's worked out."

"I saw you over the weekend, but I don't think we've talked before. I'm Angela."

Chloe comes in wearing her John and Cam punishment shirt, and looks up at the easel. Hmm. That's a good point. Of course, I think this is the first election the school's had, so I'm not surprise there are kinks to be ironed out.

Jake comes shuffling in, carrying a coffee cup and looking bewildered. She goes to sit down at her usual place, placing the coffee cup on the desk before digging out her notebook.

Duce spots Jayne coming in and does an obvious double-take.

Chihaya looks over at Jayne as well and grins. "He's kind of cute like that."

Chihaya sees Beka, the girl from study hall yesterday and the gun debate. After a small hesitation, he goes over to the desk next to her and sits down. "Um, hi."

"Hi. Chihaya, right?" She smiles. Where people get the idea she's going to bite if they don't want to be bitten is beyond her. Just because she'll play hard with Angelus and Camulus and Anakin thinks she's more dangerous than most anyone in the school doesn't mean she can't be kind. She's kind more often than not. She realizes she's in a rather prickly mood this morning and decides to be warmer. "I'm glad you still want to talk to me."

Duce nods at Chi. "We approve of the clean, good looking thing."

Duce takes a safety pin off her jacket and silently hands it to Jake.

When she smiled, Chihaya smiled back and became more relaxed. "Why wouldn't I? Just because we don't agree on something doesn't make us enemies or anything, does it? And I'm glad to see you aren't mad with me, too."

Jake nods a thanks and then pins the note to her sweater. There. That might make the day livable.

"I don't really stay mad unless someone hurts someone I care about." She shrugs. "I'm not entirely sure we disagree, Chihaya. I don't want people who want to be unarmed to be afraid. I don't want anyone who has inherent lethality or magic or whatever to be persecuted or damaged. I just want to be able to be me. Like everyone else."

"Okay!" Chihaya said cheeruflly. He didn't want to talk about it anymore. It was a subject that made people unhappy and he didn't like people to be unhappy. "So, are you going to homecoming?"

Beka considers talking to Duce. But figures it's going nowhere and continues to write out her thoughts on academic affairs to try to create a sensible platform.

"Suits are really nice," Chihaya said, loud enough for Jayne to hear. He was obviously uncomfortable but Chihaya really did think he looked nice.

Beka blinks at the change in topic, but smiles softly. "Yeah. Yeah I am." Her voice is also soft, warm.
