Redemption: What A Crock [Period 6, Monday]

After the class had assembled in the danger shop, Ares pointed to two lists of names. "I have, purely randomly of course, assigned you to two groups, the Wannabe Heroes, in search of redemption, and the Annoying Sidekicks, who will supposedly aid the Heroes on their quest."

"Now, today, you will choose your sidekick. Or more accurately, your sidekick will choose you, because they're annoying that way. Heroes, your job will be to try to dissuade your sidekick from following you around on your lonely quest for redemption, however actual physical force that would result in damage to your sidekick, while amusing to me, is not generally considered a good tactic. Sidekicks, you stick to your heroes like glue. Let nothing, not even physical force, stop you."

"Well, let's get started."

John didn't really think of himself as a hero. But the activity sounded like fun.

Andrew was feeling kind of bad about how quickly he had given in with Jeff. He looked around the room for a chance to redeem himself. If, of course, that was even possible.

The only one not partnered up yet seemed to be the Sheppard guy -- naturally -- the guy he had made an idiot of himself with at the opening picnic. Andrew swallowed hard. This could be a growing experience. If nothing else, he could maybe get another hug.

He walked up to Sheppard, "I am here to be your faithful sidekick."

"Uh, hi..." Oh geez, it was that strange Wells kid from the cafeteria. What was his first name? John couldn't remember.

"Sorry to say I have no need for a sidekick as I am not hero-ing about at the moment. But, uh, thanks for asking?"

"Okay," Andrew responded. He turned around and started to walk away, then spun back around suddenly and shouted, "Just kidding! See, I'm funny. Every hero needs to have a funny sidekick. It's written in the manual."

Okay, so this was going to take some mental adjustment. She wasn't used to being the hero at all.

At least she'd met Rodney, and he seemed nice.

Having spoken to Dawn while doing dino research over the weekend, Rodney figured she'd be a good person to work with on this assignment. Not that he felt much like a sidekick.

"You know, if you're going to have any chance of succeeding, you'll need my help."

Interesting approach. "Oh, yeah? Why is that?"

"Well, you hero types are notorious for rushing headlong into dangerous situations with nothing going for you expect your overwhelming sense of entitlement and maybe a superpower or two. And while you'd think that the superpowers would be an advantage, heroes are usually too dependent on them. The arch-nemesis almost always has a way to nullify special abilities and the heroes are left relying on their little used brains," Rodney scoffed. "That's why they need someone who can do the heavy thinking for them and save them when they're trapped and without powers." Put like that, Rodney didn't mind the whole sidekick thing too much.

Re: Teddy Altman- WACk [Week Two]

This shouldn't be too hard. He just needed to act like Cap or Iron Man.

Luke, looking a little sullen, walked over to Teddy. "Hooray," he said, shooting a glare towards Ares, "it is the fearsome Hulking, infiltrator of New York City parades. I'm with you."

When Teddy pictured someone wanting to be his sidekick, they were always a bit more... enthusiastic.

"No kid, it's much too dangerous for you," He deadpanned.

"I can handle danger," Luke whined whined. "I'll be there to hand you your weapons, stop you from turning to the dark side and mock you when you have to wear stupid disguises to infiltrate various headquarters."

Luke was pulling a little too much from how Artoo worked.

Well, this should be easy. Dick had been trying to push Beaver away from him his whole life.

Lana assessed the potential heroes and went over to Dick. "Hi," she said with a smile that managed to be just a bit shy and seductive. "I choose you to be my hero."

Re: Dick Casablancas - WACk [Week Two]

[identity profile] surferboy-09er.livejournal.com 2007-07-16 02:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, that's just not fair. He actually wanted Lana to be his sidekick. Stupid assignment...

"Well, um, you can't follow me around." Dick said. "You're too much of a liability."

[identity profile] lovelylana.livejournal.com 2007-07-16 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
"I know how to stay out of the way and let my hero protect me," Lana assured him. "I won't be in the way. And I could be very useful. You know you'd like having me around." She blinked at him innocently.

Re: Jeff Murdock - WACk [Week Two]

[identity profile] scary-jeff.livejournal.com 2007-07-16 12:53 pm (UTC)(link)
So Jeff was a little uncomfortable. (Actually, 'mortified' would be the right word) He had never been a hero before. Not even a fake one.

He stood there like a block of wood, or maybe some kind of a deer waiting for the headlights.

Re: Jeff Murdock - WACk [Week Two]

[identity profile] wannabe-pan.livejournal.com 2007-07-16 01:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Andrew closed his eyes, took a few deep breaths, and opened them back up -- now totally in character (or so he tried to convince himself).

He approached Jeff, moving a little haltingly, and doing a poor job with the whole eye contact thing.

"Um. Hello, brave and heroic hero!"

Re: Jeff Murdock - WACk [Week Two]

[identity profile] scary-jeff.livejournal.com 2007-07-16 01:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Jeff may have jumped a little. He was so far out of character he might as well have been in China.

"Who?" he blurted, turning around to look behind him, then in multiple sideways directions.
