Redemption: What A Crock [Period 6, Monday]

After the class had assembled in the danger shop, Ares pointed to two lists of names. "I have, purely randomly of course, assigned you to two groups, the Wannabe Heroes, in search of redemption, and the Annoying Sidekicks, who will supposedly aid the Heroes on their quest."

"Now, today, you will choose your sidekick. Or more accurately, your sidekick will choose you, because they're annoying that way. Heroes, your job will be to try to dissuade your sidekick from following you around on your lonely quest for redemption, however actual physical force that would result in damage to your sidekick, while amusing to me, is not generally considered a good tactic. Sidekicks, you stick to your heroes like glue. Let nothing, not even physical force, stop you."

"Well, let's get started."

John didn't really think of himself as a hero. But the activity sounded like fun.

Andrew was feeling kind of bad about how quickly he had given in with Jeff. He looked around the room for a chance to redeem himself. If, of course, that was even possible.

The only one not partnered up yet seemed to be the Sheppard guy -- naturally -- the guy he had made an idiot of himself with at the opening picnic. Andrew swallowed hard. This could be a growing experience. If nothing else, he could maybe get another hug.

He walked up to Sheppard, "I am here to be your faithful sidekick."

Okay, so this was going to take some mental adjustment. She wasn't used to being the hero at all.

At least she'd met Rodney, and he seemed nice.

Having spoken to Dawn while doing dino research over the weekend, Rodney figured she'd be a good person to work with on this assignment. Not that he felt much like a sidekick.

"You know, if you're going to have any chance of succeeding, you'll need my help."

This shouldn't be too hard. He just needed to act like Cap or Iron Man.

Luke, looking a little sullen, walked over to Teddy. "Hooray," he said, shooting a glare towards Ares, "it is the fearsome Hulking, infiltrator of New York City parades. I'm with you."

Well, this should be easy. Dick had been trying to push Beaver away from him his whole life.

Lana assessed the potential heroes and went over to Dick. "Hi," she said with a smile that managed to be just a bit shy and seductive. "I choose you to be my hero."

So Jeff was a little uncomfortable. (Actually, 'mortified' would be the right word) He had never been a hero before. Not even a fake one.

He stood there like a block of wood, or maybe some kind of a deer waiting for the headlights.

Andrew closed his eyes, took a few deep breaths, and opened them back up -- now totally in character (or so he tried to convince himself).

He approached Jeff, moving a little haltingly, and doing a poor job with the whole eye contact thing.

"Um. Hello, brave and heroic hero!"

Luke was there.

Looking sulky.

He didn't want to be the annoying side-kick.
