Redemption: What A Crock [Period 6, Monday]

After the class had assembled in the danger shop, Ares pointed to two lists of names. "I have, purely randomly of course, assigned you to two groups, the Wannabe Heroes, in search of redemption, and the Annoying Sidekicks, who will supposedly aid the Heroes on their quest."

"Now, today, you will choose your sidekick. Or more accurately, your sidekick will choose you, because they're annoying that way. Heroes, your job will be to try to dissuade your sidekick from following you around on your lonely quest for redemption, however actual physical force that would result in damage to your sidekick, while amusing to me, is not generally considered a good tactic. Sidekicks, you stick to your heroes like glue. Let nothing, not even physical force, stop you."

"Well, let's get started."

"Well, Nobel Prize Winner would be good, but it's a bit of a mouthful. I think I'll do well when I become Doctor McKay. It has a nice ring to it."

Rodney regarded Dawn. "What about you? Anything you wanted to go by?"

Buffy. "No, not so much," she admitted, "I'm kinda boring for a superhero. Sorry about that."

"That's all right," he waved away Dawn's apology. "I'm not that good with names anyway so that's one less thing to worry about." Most of the time, he didn't even bother to learn names unless someone impressed him or he had to deal with them a lot.

"So, oh sidekick mine, I have another question for you, and this is really really important." She paused, and gave him a very serious look. "What do you like on your pizza? And what's your favorite kind of doughnut?"

Rodney smiled. These were very important questions indeed. "I like everything on my pizza. As for donuts, I love the glazed chocolate cake ones but I'll certainly eat any others as long as they aren't lemon-filled." He gave Dawn a serious look. "I have a severe citrus allergy."

"No citrus, check." Then Dawn realized exactly what that meant. "You can't have key lime pie? Like, ever? Whoa, major suckage. And when you say everything, do you mean, like, anchovies?"

She looked at him very hopefully.

"Not ever, no. But really, it's not like I know what I'm missing so it's not all that bad." The potential for anaphylactic shock bothered him much more than missing a dessert he'd never tasted. "Anchovies? They aren't a necessity but sure, why not?"

"You should try them with pineapple sometime," Dawn said, then thought, "or wait, are they a citrus fruit, too? I thought I remembered hearing that somewhere."

"No, pineapple isn't a citrus." Rodney looked like he was very far away for a moment. "Mmmm... Hawaiian pizza."

"Oh, excellent!" Dawn bounced excitedly. "So, what kind of villains should we go after, do you think?"

Rodney considered this. "Well, my talents would be best put to use against the crazy mad scientist type. What about you?"

[ooc: I feel like I should be in the Superheroes class.]

"Oooh, those are good ones! I'm usually more the demon and vampire type, but I don't mind diversifying to give you something new to do," she offered.

[ooc: *snerk* ]

"Thanks for the consideration," he smirked. "You'd hate to see me when I get bored."

"Why, what happens?"

Probably a little too interested there, Dawn.

Rodney tried to think of a good example. "I wasn't being challenged at all in my grade six science class so I built an atomic bomb for my project." He quickly continued before Dawn could get the wrong idea. "It was just a working model! No fissionable material whatsoever," he assured her.

"Wait. If it worked, how could there not be fission? Isn't that...how it works?"

"That's just a phrase. It means it would have worked perfectly if it contained uranium. For some reason, the school board wouldn't let students work with radioactive elements." Rodney said this like it was a bad thing.

"Um. Huh." A brief pause. "Is 'those bastards' the right answer here? I don't wanna piss you off and go looking for another sidekick."

"No, it's okay. I wasn't actually intending to blow anything up. Not mention the potential damage caused by even the briefest exposure to radiation." Rodney shuddered. "So, no need for you to find a new sidekick. We're fine."
