Redemption: What A Crock [Period 6, Monday]

After the class had assembled in the danger shop, Ares pointed to two lists of names. "I have, purely randomly of course, assigned you to two groups, the Wannabe Heroes, in search of redemption, and the Annoying Sidekicks, who will supposedly aid the Heroes on their quest."

"Now, today, you will choose your sidekick. Or more accurately, your sidekick will choose you, because they're annoying that way. Heroes, your job will be to try to dissuade your sidekick from following you around on your lonely quest for redemption, however actual physical force that would result in damage to your sidekick, while amusing to me, is not generally considered a good tactic. Sidekicks, you stick to your heroes like glue. Let nothing, not even physical force, stop you."

"Well, let's get started."

"Ah," Teddy replied, crossing out somethin funny costumes, no sidekicks."

"But I'd be a great sidekick," Luke said. "I work for very reasonable wages and I've already been in swamps and deserts and trash compactors, so there's really nowhere too strange for me to follow you around in."

That's less sidekicky and more stalker, Luke, but points for effort.

"I didn't know sidekicks got paid..." Teddy said, wondering if maybe that was why they wanted to get rid of the Young Avengers.

He shook his head to clear that thought. "I don't think you'd want to hang out where I'm from."

"It's got to be better than Tatooine," Luke chirped.

"Alien invasions, people coming back from the dead, weird powers, evil people constantly trying to kill me..." And yes, Teddy was trying to scare him off.

He was kinda naive.

Luke stared at him. "Uh-huh...and?"

Yeah. That worked so well. Plan B time.

"Are you a fan of boykissy?"

Luke's eyes went much wider. "In the abstract?" he asked.

Ah-ha! "No, in practice. Only people who can be my sidekicks are fans of boykissy."

Luke bit his lower lip. "I'm a fan. Huge fan. Really."

He was taking the assignment way seriously.

Teddy gave him a disbelieving look. "Are not!"

"I thought I was Siegfried for many, many hours," Luke said. "I have seen the light."

"Really?" Teddy was trying very hard to keep a straight face now. He had listened to the radio when that happened, after all. "Fan of the glitter and everything?"

"Oh yeah," Luke said. "I just have to break it to my girlfriend."

"Another victim of the weirdness here, huh?"

"Poor Tori," Luke said with a smile. "But I cannot resist the pull of glitter. Or something."

Teddy nodded sadly. "Maybe when you graduate you'll be able to break the pull of the glitter."

"Maybe that can be our quest," Luke said with a grin.

Ares would love that, he was sure.

"But I like the glitter!" Teddy protested. He even liked it before coming here so the quest was meaningless for him.

Luke quickly changed tacks. "We can bring the wonder to your dimension, then."

That just made Teddy imagine people from back home affected by glitter. Like the Super Skrull and...well, anyone. "Ew." He wanted to rip his own eyes out now.

Luke winced. "...or not?" he said.
