Library [08/01]

Rory hurried into the library and turned on the fan immediately before outfitting the desk with both a bottle of water and an iced latte.

With these fortifications, she was ready to spend the day there.

If it's rare to see Aeryn in the library, it's rarer to see her there when she's actually looking for something. This means she's actually looking for help when she says "Hi."

"Hey," Rory said, glancing up with a smile. "I haven't seen anyone fort yet today, if that's who you're looking for."

"I'm mostly relieved to hear that," Aeryn smiles. "No, I actually, I was looking for a book."

"Of all things," Rory grinned. "Okay, what can I help you find?"

"Massachusetts," Aeryn says, pronouncing it very carefully. "Did I say that right?"

"Yup. That's where I might go to school." Rory looked at her curiously. "What about Massachusetts in particular? Maps? Information about a particular area? Cambridge, maybe?"

"Possibly?" says Aeryn, who actually looks a little shy. "I'm not sure about what area, exactly."

Having never been in the library - at least not that he remembered - Jack bounced inside, very small white box in one hand, iced orange mocha cappucino in the other, and grinned at Rory. "Hi."

"Hi," Rory replied, raising a brow. "What brings you to the li...you're not here to get married, are you?"

With an elegant flourish, Jack slid the white box, which was big enough to hold a large muffin, or something else from J,GoB (http://www.cakeconnection.com/minicakes_files/image001.jpg), across the desk towards Rory and placed the coffee next to it. "Maybe," he laughed, looking smug.

Rory peeked in the box and burst out laughing. "Cute. I'm afraid all I have is books, unless you want bottled water?" she offered, holding up an unopened bottle.

"Anything from you would be a gift." Jack batted his eyelashes, then grinned. "So yeah, water would be good, thanks. And it's chocolate fudge," he said, pointing at the tiny cake.

"Thank you," she said, smiling and handing him the water. "I'll share if I can figure out how to cut it. I don't exactly keep cutlery here, sadly."

Broots came into the library, a bit bored.

"Hey, Broots," Rory chirped, looking up from her book. "What's new and interesting?"

"Parker thinks I'm a bigger freak than usual and there have been no wacky hijinks since the whole 'lost voices thing'. You?"

"Jack brought me wedding cake," she told him. "And I've had plenty of hijinks. I dyed my hair blonde and then fixed it."

"Is he getting married?" Broots figured no, but it never hurt to ask. "And somehow I can't see you as a blonde. Red, maybe."

"Jaye has pictures." Rory wasn't sure why she felt compelled to share that. "And Jack and I played a game yesterday where I stood him up at the altar, and I told him we could get married today in the library. Ergo, he brought me cake."

Anakin walked into the library.

He was in no way looking around for Jack. Or any form of weddings.

He certainly wasn't scowling, either.

"Hi!" Rory said brightly.

Anakin gave her a small smile. "I heard the weidest thing on the radio last night," he said.

"I didn't make out with her," Rory said immediately. "But I did take pictures because it was really, really funny."

"Okay, that part was weird, too," Anakin said, "but I was a little distracted by the first part of the broadcast."
