Things to Do at the Beach #3, Galactica Point, Friday Morning

Jarod waited for the class to arrive under a makeshift tent. Next to him were plastic shovels and pails. And a large group of kittens that had gotten curious about what he was doing and had decided to sit in. One or two were in the pails, either playing or curled up and sleeping.

"Good morning, everyone. Unfortunately, because of Fandom's...eccentricities," he looked at the kittens, then the pudding, which occasionally glopped from the sky, "I don't feel safe sending you out on the water today. But that's not all that you can do at the beach," he continued, "Today you'll be making sand castles--but they don't need to look like castles, if you feel like being more free form about it. There are also frisbees and a volleyball, if you want to play with those instead."

Jaye's only playing with the sand and looking hopefully at the volleyball court, watching for any cute shirtless boys. It's Isabel's fault, really. And her distraction may be why she's a little surprised when a frog suddenly ribbits and brushes past her hand as it hops away.

"Huh," she says, and shrugs, though she's a little more cautious about where she's putting her hands now.

A shirtless boy trips over her. Sadly, he's more along the scrawny-skater line of shirtless and, owing to having just taken a header, is coming up spitting sand.

"Sorry, bra . . ."

Fry launches himself at the sand and starts smoothing out an area to build his sandcastle.

Archie had a kitten nesting in his hair by the time he took a pail and shovel and settled himself down on a stretch of beach to start building.

He wasn't exactly building a castle, though; his structure was shaping up to look more like a fort on a cliff, and he'd brought a couple of his model ships along to place along the "coastline" as if they were under fire.

"Better than my original plan. The Admiralty building (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:The_Admiralty_%28now_the_Ripley_Buidling%29_by_Thomas_Hosmer_Shepherd%2C_1830..jpg#file) at Whitehall would have been far more complicated," replied Archie. "Oh God, do I have a kitten in my hair again? They like it there. God knows why."

Isabel got a bucket of sand right at the water's edge then returned to hide under tent. She's working on a castle using the dribble sand and create wild spires technique.

Jack crouched beside her. Yes, there's a black and white kitten on his shoulder.

"Morning, Isabel." He watched her dribbling sand for a moment. "Everything okay with you today?" he asked. "Nothing weird happening?"

Parker's yawning every five seconds, and mostly? Just lying there watching other people build castles while kittens crawl over her to various bits of construction work

After her half-hearted attempt as sandcastle building, Isabel gave up and went to sit by Parker. "You doing okay?"

Jack sat down next to her, the kitten on his shoulder purring at the sight of Parker. He didn't say anything for a minute, just pressed his shoulder against hers.

"Are you okay?" he finally asked, turning to look at her, eyes filled with the worry he was trying to keep off his face.

Maybe it's the croaking of frogs that make her think of it, but for whatever reason Molly doesn't build a sandcastle. What she ends up building looks more like a mechanical frog (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v165/Minion_of_Truth/Fandom%20High/Leapfrog.gif), even if it isn't very detailed.

Elizabeth had just about progressed past dumping a bucket of wet sand upside-down.

Her castle had a Norman keep in the middle and a wall around the outside and might have born some resemblence to Dover Castle (http://www.buildmodelcastles.com/assets/images/dover_castle-hp.jpg).

It's hard to build a sandcastle with a kitten on your shoulder, but Jack gave it his best shot.

He upended a bucket full of sand, used his finger to sculpt turrets in the top, and added a stick with a wee tiny bit of seaweed wrapped around it for a flag. "There. Castle," he said to the kitten.

The kitten didn't seem impressed.
