Things to Do at the Beach #3, Galactica Point, Friday Morning
Jarod waited for the class to arrive under a makeshift tent. Next to him were plastic shovels and pails. And a large group of kittens that had gotten curious about what he was doing and had decided to sit in. One or two were in the pails, either playing or curled up and sleeping.
"Good morning, everyone. Unfortunately, because of Fandom's...eccentricities," he looked at the kittens, then the pudding, which occasionally glopped from the sky, "I don't feel safe sending you out on the water today. But that's not all that you can do at the beach," he continued, "Today you'll be making sand castles--but they don't need to look like castles, if you feel like being more free form about it. There are also frisbees and a volleyball, if you want to play with those instead."

Re: Build Sand Castles
"Things like what?" asked Janet, curious about why he was smirking. "A cell phone is a good idea. Not that I don't think you're extremely capable, but you never know when you'll need to call in for backup."
Re: Build Sand Castles
totally handwaved because his player doesn't remember either OMGbrief explanation of the sort of tactics the Royal Navy would use in such a situation, moving the ships around to illustrate. "Bloody wasn't the half of it.""Oh," he added, "music, some interesting bits of amateur fiction . . . as I said, my Google searches aren't quite specific enough yet. And I suppose I'll have to get that cell phone sooner or later.
If I don't, she'll headtilt at me until I do."Re: Build Sand Castles
"Bits of amateur fiction?" asked Janet. She raised one eyebrow and looked at Archie. "Like...about sports?" Also she tried not to snicker and failed miserably.

"Dear God! It's a furry sea monster!"

Re: Build Sand Castles
"I'd often heard it said that staring death in the face had the power to unite people, but sometimes I wonder if the person who came up with that phrase ever intended it to be quite so literal."
Re: Build Sand Castles
"I highly, highly doubt it," said Janet. "On the other hand, you never know. I get the feeling that zombie invasions aren't all that uncommon in some dimensions."
Re: Build Sand Castles
Archie looked ruefully at Janet. "I think it's a kraken in disguise. Maybe I'll name it Davy Jones."
Re: Build Sand Castles
"A kraken in a cute, fuzzy kitten disguise?" Janet nodded. "In Fandom, I'd believe it. He can keep Cam-Mollusc company." She reached out to pet the kitten again. "That's a good name for him. He can be the scourge of sand castle pirates."
Re: Build Sand Castles
The kitten mewed loudly in apparent appreciation of his new name, and arched his tiny back into optimal petting position. "I think he approves of the name," noted Archie. "That ought to worry me."
Re: Build Sand Castles
"Probably," agreed Janet. "But you can deal with it later, when he reveals his kraken nature." She glanced at her watch. "I should get going. I need to pick up a mocha,
unexpectedly run into Veronica, and get back to the dorms."Re: Build Sand Castles
Archie gathered up his boats despite Davy Jones's protests and patted the side of his sand fortress. "You'll be well enough stormed when the tide comes in," he told it.
