Zero opened up the library, as was usual for her on Wednesdays, and briefly disappeared into the stacks looking for something to occupy her time. She returned with The Pearl Blade, the third in the "Jewels of the Caribbean" series by Angelica Demesnes, her new favorite author.

Shining Red Fox MacGregor has been kidnapped by an unknown assailant. Her brother, Running Wolf, and his wife, the pirate-ninja princess Amethyst Flower, are frantic.

Second Period

It is revealed that Shining Red Fox's kidnapper is none other than Diego Tang, the mercenary known as the Pearl Blade. Whatever shall she do?

Angela waved to Zero as she came in. She looked slightly less miserable than she had the day before. "Hey. Has Janet come in yet?"

Angela wrinkled her nose a little at that. "Eh. I was hoping she had dropped something off for me, but it can wait."

She nodded at the paperback. "What're you reading?"

Janet showed up at the library, entirely too early in the morning, with Marty's laptop.

Third Period

As Ammy and Running Wolf go to the sheikh who previously kidnapped her to ask for a loan to pay Shining Red Fox's ransom, Shining Red Fox begins to notice that Diego is kind of cute.

Zero hides the book fast like a hiding thing that hides. "Oh, um. Nothing."

Angela was still lurking, but she was attempting to give Peter and Zero some privacy by retreating to a far corner of the desk and preparing books to reshelve.

Fourth Period

The sheikh offers them a loan at exorbitant interest rates. Or, alternately, for one night with Amethyst Flower.

So she stabbinates him. Zero approves.

Parker came in after going to the gym, bringing her Russian homework with her again. She blinked when she saw the book, then grinned. "Oh, it finally got here?"

Lunch

The library is closed for lunch. Zero is still reading.

Diego confesses to Shining Red Fox that he doesn't know who hired him, though the reader knows it was actually the sheikh. He's supposed to wait for more orders in some little shack in the jungle.

Too bad about that stabbination, huh?

Fifth Period

Diego and Shining Red Fox make tender love of incredibly purple prose.

Rory shuffled in, looking both tired and blotchy, and carrying a huge cup of coffee.

She took a seat and proceeded to stare blankly into space, ignoring even the glorious nectar of caffeine before her.

Angel came in on a quest for more research. Spotting Rory, he swung by her way. "Hey. How's it going?"

Sixth Period

Ammy, Running Wolf, and their crew storm the shack in the jungle. After a brief misunderstanding in which Diego learns the MacGregor family secret when a giant wolf tries to rip his throat out for ravaging his sister, they get things straightened out with a minimum of bloodshed.

Seventh Period

Shining Red Fox MacGregor and Diego Tang are married. It is revealed that both Shining Red Fox and Ammy are pregnant. The end.

Allie enters the library, blush firmly in place, and walks up to the desk.

"Um, can you help me find a book for one of my classes?" she asks.

"Probably," Zero said, flipping her book closed so the cover, with its scantily-clad red-haired Indian maiden swooning in the arms of a half-Spanish, half-Chinese man who suspiciously resembled Fabio was visible. "What d'you need--oh, and you do have a library card, right?"

As Zero was locking up for the day, a lemur ran into the library. Zero blinked at it and asked, "Can you do the YMCA?"

The lemur enthusiastically did the arm letters, then dashed off. Zero called after him, "Don't eat the books!"
