"Good morning!" Anakin blared through the microphone. "An essential skill of a camper is the ability to feed yourself over a campfire--BEAKER, GET AWAY FROM THE CAMPFIRES."

There was slightly charred sounding apologetic meeping as Beaker moved away from one of the two campfires that had been carefully set up in the park. There were rickety looking folding tables arranged nearby the fires with cutting boards, knives, bowls, and other moddable kitchen items nearby. There was, however, no power. Everything would have to be chopped and grated and opened from a can by hand.

"Today, you will be paired up and asked to feature one of two different sets of menu items," Anakin continued. "And then you will present them to our esteemed panel of judges: Summer, Hannibal, Peebee, and Vette." He pointed to the judges. "Your meal must be cooked over the campfire. We have an array of other ingredients--" he pointed to a pantry and set of mini fridges that Beaker was now standing near, so expect that to spontaneously fall over any minute now, "--for you to use to supplement your original ingredients, but you must use the three ingredients we give you." He took a deep breath. "Please don't give the judges food poisoning, and remember that presentation matters. Listen for your names!"

The bleachers were looking much more stable today, and the food vendors (who weren't your friends and neighbors) were serving all kinds of delicious munchies. Anakin didn't know about anyone else, but he was always hungry watching people cook.

With the way her classes were, Nina was sort of grateful to the park-thing for getting her out and about mid-week since, other than her shop, she was left thoroughly to her own devices and these days those devices were either reading all the books or seeing what else she could get into through her phone.

Wayne's advice about finding a professional would probably, like, be useful but the idea of being supplanted in terms of usefulness made her twitchy and it wasn't like she was on a tight deadline.

Even if she had no intentions of, like, taking twenty years to get good at anything she set her mind to.

Nina got a drink from one of the vendors and settled on the bleachers, playing with her phone while keeping an eye on who, and what was going on around her.

Hardison hadn't shown up today intending to get involved with any of these shenanigans. Nah, he was here, huntin' hackers.

Well, specifically a hacker. Someone had been messing around with his networks recently. At first, he'd dismissed it as a bored kid, testing the waters. Except they'd kept coming back.

And then they'd started breaking through.

Sure, it was just the very outer ring of his defenses and it was more brute strength and persistence, but where was a fair bit of skill there, too. At first Hardison had been amused, then annoyed, and now he was all the way up to curious.

Whoever it was, was here. Now just to-- "Yo, did they call for me?"

Kathy had, err, decided that today was a perfect day to come by the island and just visit. So after Dante had headed out to fetch Ada, Kathy had grabbed Ronin's leash and decided that a long walk around the park of Fandom - assuming it wasn't still radioactive and filled with bombs - was just the thing.

No bombs and no radiation, but the first time that Ronin had turned to her and asked if she was quite certain she was feeling all right, all things considered, Kathy had nearly startled back into the duck pond.

Liam wasn’t participating in whatever today’s madness was going to be, but Verity was, so he was here to play supportive boyfriend!

And also to enjoy an array of delicious (fresh, non-irradiated) snacks now that the island was back to normal.

Jono just sort of tilted his head at the ingredients in question.

And the amount of British cooking that involved gelatin anyway? Pff. The judges should just count themselves lucky that they were cooking with tuna and not eels.

Billy was kind of staring at the folding table, wondering if it was going to collapse under its own insignificant weight any second.

"On the bright side, I don't think this is much weirder than what we get at home sometimes when Victor and Rosa leave us in charge of dinner."

Eugene got some wild ideas sometimes when he managed to peel himself away from his video games for ten seconds.

"Like, I ain't sure this is gonna be edible no matter what we do, with those three ingredients," Iris said doubtfully. "My cookin' ain't much for that sort of thing."

It was pretty sad, really, that she'd have rathered have the other set of ingredients.

"I should probably mention that I don't cook much," Sabine said, but she was trying to figure out how to make these things work. Or at least, how to make it look appetizing even if it wasn't.

"I think I've heard about creatures like this," she said, because someone had spent a little too much time studying about the various flora and fauna of Exandria.

The ingredients were weird together but, like, Vette was a judge. Nina was pretty sure that, if nothing else, she could figure out something that Vette liked!

After setting out their featured ingredients in front of him, Wayne folded his arms, looked down at them, and released a slight, deep growling sounds that probably was a good indication of just what he thought about them.

But at least he was paired with Shuri. He liked her so far, and, between the two of them, they should be able to figgur it ouwt...

Tip felt that having spent half a year living on her own at age 11 would give her an advantage in this particular event. Sure, she'd mostly lived on vending machine food during that time, and she'd had Boov ingenuity to rely on, even if J.Lo hadn't known a blessed thing about human dietary needs. Still.

". . . Do you think the tomato and marshmallows need to be in the same part of the meal? Or can we make an entree and a dessert?"

Vette... was kind of excited about this, honestly. Mostly for the free food. But at least in part because she could be judgey all she wanted, too.

"You're going to share that tuna, right?"

And the kitten perched on her shoulder under one lek was looking forward to it almost as much.
