"What the ever-loving fuck is a Portalocity Lounge?"

Apparently, it was precisely the place where Wayne was standing, squared shoulders, thumbs in his belt loops, frowning up at the softest, most sparkliest banner he had ever seen...and he'd een to at least a baker's dozen of Dary's traditional soft birthday parties, so he knew a soft fucking banner when he saw one.

"That," he stated, to no one in particular, especially since he seemed to be the first one there (if you're not five minutes early, you're five minutes late, bud), "is fucking 10-ply."

But it was what it was. No going back now, ain't no reason to get excited, he supposed. Pitter-patter. So he turned his head sharply to one side of the lounge, eyed the chairs against the wall, and went to have a seat, one hand on his knee, tohe other around the smallest cup of coffee he could get, and settled in to wait.

Barnabas' eyes widened and he tried to answer quickly, "No.."

Wayne was of the opinion that anyone who wanted to could say fuck, but he might have been disposed to inform this girl that she might want to take about 10, 20 percent off there.

But there was a dog, and no amount of excitedly dropped F-bombs could distract him from that.

He also thought for a second that maybe the dog had said 'no,' but that was just silly. Dogs couldn't talk.

"Didn't know we could bring dogs," he noted, sounding maybe a little petulant about it, but making himself feel better by pointing out that the dogs were much happier back home on the farm. He tilted his head at Barnabas for a moment before clicking his tongue a little, patting his knee to see if that good bo wanted to come over and say hi.

But not actually say hi, because dogs couldn't talk.

Shuri had a large, colorful bag slung over her shoulder, a small bracelet of kimoyo beads on her left wrist and a woman who was watching her from a cafe a careful distance away.

"This is for Fandom?" she asked, checking the sign. Her eyes lit up at Wayne's coffee cup. "Oooh, is that Starbucks? I've always wanted to try Starbucks."

"It's no Tim Hortons," said Wayne, because Canadian, "but it'll do." He lifted his chin a little, cocking his head in the general direction of the concourse in the station where he'd gotten it. "Just down that waaay's a bit, if you can be quick about it before the bus gets here, but it's not likeleh. Line's about longer than a hawkey player's treasure trail."

He would have added a disparaging fuck at the end of that, but he was talking to a girl, and it was impolite to swear too much in front of girls you didn't yet know.

"Oh, is there a Starbucks here?" Okuyasu said, his eyes also lighting up at that prospect. "There's not too many of those in Japan yet."

At least, not in 1999.

The truth was, Billy might have been a lot more reluctant to come here, to spend a summer at camp so soon after he'd actually found himself a family, except that it had been a family effort to get him here. It was Victor and Rosa who had signed him up, but Mary was the one who had heard about it in the first place and talked them into it after Pedro and Eugene had done the research, Freddy had been very persuasive about how it was a good opportunity for a fledgling superhero to get in some training, and Darla had pointed out that it wasn't like it would be hard for him to come home for a visit, even if he just wanted to stop in for dinner.

He was looking up at the banner with a faint, bemused grin, and texting pictures of it and the lounge back to his siblings.

Wayne took note of the other boy taking the pictures, and would offer an amicable nod to him if he notcied, but he was mostly content in just sitting and waiting quietly, for the most part.

Okuyasu looked over at the younger kid and paused for a second.

"...what are you holding?" he asked, because he was woefully out of his element when it came to technology that was, admittedly, 20 years from his future.

Janet hadn't actually believed she'd get here until she was on the plane from Toronto, and now she was feeling super great about it. She assumed the kids sitting here had to be her classmates, but rather than looking uncool about it, she was mostly checking them out first from her seat among her bags.

And there'd be at least a small nod of acknowledgement from the boy in the flannel, sitting off to the side and doing pretty much the same thing.

So far, except for the whole talking dog thing, seemed like a pretty normal, upstanding, decent bunch, really.

Okuyasu was a sight - his modified school uniform had a prominent gold Cifrão on the chest, and the word 'Billion' written in white on both arms (though one was in kanji). That was aside from his black pompadour and the grey hair on the sides of his head, and the prominent curved scars on his face.

"So this is where we wait to go to that famous and not suspicious school, huh?" he said, totally suave.

Wayne was trying his best, he really was, to be polite and not pass too many judgements while scoping out the other students, but, fuck every duck, this guy right here was what you'd get with the dictionary definition of 'spare parts,' wasn't he?

"Not sure about famous," he said, since he hadn't even heard of it before a week or so ago, "or not suspicious, either, but if you're talking about Fandom High, I'd think the sparkly banner over by the entrance kind of answers that one for ya, bud."

Delirium peered up - way up- at Anakin. She smiled. "Your dress is very nice!" she chirped, "All browny and flowy and long and I bet it swishes really really good! Do you ever do spins to make it swoosh out like a wave only if earth could do a wave and not just water?"

Barnabas wished his forelegs were hinged correctly to facepaw.

It would be totally understandable for Billy to do a double take when he spotted Anakin, considering Anakin's aesthetic was a little bit reminiscent of Dr. Sivana's, right? Just for a second though, and then he was shouldering his bag and boarding the bus. He was pretty sure Eugene or Pedro would have mentioned something if there was an actual risk of him going to supervillain school by accident.

Because now she was wondering if she was somehow not dressed right, which raised all sorts of questions.

Ten minutes gave Wayne more than enough time to go have a dart, and, while he was enjoying that smoke, he was contemplating whether or not to say something about the bus driver's outfit. He wouldn't, ultimately, because it seemed mostly just a waste of breath, but, fuck, bud, don't know if you got the memo, but it's a bus, not a bathroom.

Bed, Bath, and Beyond called, and even they think you've gone to far.

Karolina was worried about Beau, and about some of the students and how this past week had affected them. But new kids were coming in today, and they hadn't yet been traumatised by vampires. And also she didn't want to crowd Beau with her fussing. So. Here she was!

And since Anakin was taking care of the more order-y bellowing, Karolina could instead beam and call out, "Come get your welcome packets!"

Because yes, she had paper bags for each of the students. Inside, they'd find a map of the island, a chocolate bar (Fair Trade, of course), and a $5 gift card to the Perk. And also a little card that said Karolina, Fandom High guidance counselor along with her contact info.

Also, it might've looked like the summery pastels of her outfit were a deliberate counterpoint to what Anakin was wearing. But, nah, that was just how she dressed.

Delirium skipped over to pick up her welcome packet. She opened it right then and there because presents were the best ever, ok?? She took a bite of the chocolate bar, then curiously took a bite of the map and the gift card and the business card. Those were less tasty but she read the business card anyway.

"Oh!" she gasped in delight, "You're like Barnabas! Barnabas! This is a guidance counselor!"

"I am not," Barnabas said with dignity, "a guide dog. I am a service dog."

"You provide guidance sometimes," Delirium said, "When I'm all lost and need help finding my way to a somewhere from a nowhere. This is a counselor who does that so this is a person type of Barnabas."

A few weeks ago, Billy might have just immediately rolled his eyes at the welcome packets and this whole setup, honestly. Too many foster homes where the warm welcome had been an act would have that effect.

But now? It just made him think of Darla and the glittery Welcome Home poster she had made for him on his first night at the Vasquezes' house, and he smiled as he headed over. He'd been a jerk about it then, and he felt like he had to make up for it somehow.

"Thanks," he said, failing at not lighting up at the sight of the chocolate.
