Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I
Okay, admittedly, having a picnic at the beginning of January wasn't the best idea the school had ever come up with. Thankfully, the weather was sort of agreeable today - it wasn't too chilly, the sun was out, and there were still pretty pockets of unmelted snow on the lawn.
In the middle of the lawn, a bonfire had been set up for warmth and light--mostly the warmth--and the tables and chairs had been set out to mostly be in the sun. There was a long table with a variety ofmoddable warm foods, and there was the usual table of nametags and lists to help folks find their siblings and roommates. With everything set up, it was time to welcome the new folks!
[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

And if that didn't work, that's what the nametags were for.

Look, she just had to ask!

Re: Meet Your Roommate [Spring 2016]
What had Santa done? Had he deliberately sent her to a school for villains in an attempt to make her put her ears back on? Surely not! This was Santa! He wouldn't manipulate her like that!
"You don't have any plans for the world or anything that you'd like to tell me about or anything, do you?" she asked, reaching for her lessons in Unmasking the Miscreants.
She really hoped he'd say no. Not just because this was her roommate, but because she really didn't want to have to call someone to come and take care of him. Maybe she could get away with calling the Princess?

She pulled her wool shawl tighter around herself, not wandering far from the bonfire.

But she was smiling cheerfully as she approached Lucille. "Hi!" she said. "I'm Raven."
Re: Meet Your Roommate [Spring 2016]
Lucille returned the smile, although with less cheerfulness, and said: "How lovely to meet you, miss Raven. I'm Lucille. I believe we are to share a room."

The sarcasm was very subtle, but it was there, if Raven was someone who paid attention to that.
Re: Meet Your Roommate [Spring 2016]
"Where are you from?" she asked. "This looks a lot like my last school, so it's not too weird for me."

Also she did not think this roommate thing would work out well anyway.

"Hello!" he said brightly. "Looking for your roommate?"

Better keep her expectations low. Harder to get disappointed that way.

She sighed and went looking for her. She supposed she'd have to try and be polite and welcoming - two things that Kaylin wasn't always so good with. Finally she saw her.
"Laura? I'm Kaylin. I guess you'll be rooming with me. I should probably apologize in advance for the mess."
[So sorry for not being around this weekend! It was unexpected or I'd have planned better. If you don't want to thread this out, that's fine, but it would be nice for them to meet!]

[Don't worry! And I have no issue threading this. Tag on!]

Between patrolling the island - just to stay in practice, you know - and not sleeping a lot because of the nightmares, well...
"Anyway, um, welcome to Fandom."
See? She could do polite and welcoming. Okay, okay, semi-polite and welcoming.

She could feel the awkwardness and the effort. Laura could appreciate that. "Thank you."

There was an awkward pause.
"It's not a bad place," Kaylin said after a moment. "I mean, it's not home and it's very weird and crazy things happen, but... I expected to absolutely hate it and I don't."
Another pause. "And there's always lots of food. Like at the picnics and in the common rooms and if you ever order take-out they always give you like four times what you ordered, no one knows why."
