Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Okay, admittedly, having a picnic at the beginning of January wasn't the best idea the school had ever come up with. Thankfully, the weather was sort of agreeable today - it wasn't too chilly, the sun was out, and there were still pretty pockets of unmelted snow on the lawn.

In the middle of the lawn, a bonfire had been set up for warmth and light--mostly the warmth--and the tables and chairs had been set out to mostly be in the sun. There was a long table with a variety of moddable warm foods, and there was the usual table of nametags and lists to help folks find their siblings and roommates. With everything set up, it was time to welcome the new folks!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Just some pies, a little 'Welcome to Fandom' sort of thing," Eric explained. And 'some pies' was a half-dozen mini-pies. Because he had no idea what her favourites might be yet (that his new roommate was coming from a situation where she likely had never had anything much like pie was not even something that had crossed his mind). "Eric Bittle," he introduced himself.

"Rey," she said cautiously. "Pies? You give food here?"

"Oh!" Eric's smile got wider, if possible, and he held out the basket to her. "Then these are for you!" That smile faltered a bit, however, when the rest of what she said registered. "Uh, yes? Well, mostly. There are restaurants and stores in town where you can buy food, of course, but the school provides a lot," he gestured to the banquet tables, "especially on days like this. And as for myself, I just- I like baking? And sharing it with people."

She took the basket, but still looked confused. "This is the strangest day."

Eric wasn't sure if he should tell her that it was only bound to get more strange from here. "Somehow I get the feeling you weren't really expecting to be here." He'd been around long enough to see that happen a few times, now.

"No. And I really need to get home, so I won't be staying long." Or so she thought.

Eric really didn't want to have to be the one to tell her that probably wasn't going to happen. But since the school's administration had decided they'd be sharing a room he figured he should at least make sure she knew she had a place to stay in the meantime. "Well, just in case, the dorms are over there," he pointed, "and there's a bed and everything for you in 216, which is my room too."
