Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I
Okay, admittedly, having a picnic at the beginning of January wasn't the best idea the school had ever come up with. Thankfully, the weather was sort of agreeable today - it wasn't too chilly, the sun was out, and there were still pretty pockets of unmelted snow on the lawn.
In the middle of the lawn, a bonfire had been set up for warmth and light--mostly the warmth--and the tables and chairs had been set out to mostly be in the sun. There was a long table with a variety ofmoddable warm foods, and there was the usual table of nametags and lists to help folks find their siblings and roommates. With everything set up, it was time to welcome the new folks!
[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

There was an awkward pause.
"It's not a bad place," Kaylin said after a moment. "I mean, it's not home and it's very weird and crazy things happen, but... I expected to absolutely hate it and I don't."
Another pause. "And there's always lots of food. Like at the picnics and in the common rooms and if you ever order take-out they always give you like four times what you ordered, no one knows why."

She stared a bit at Kaylin before adding. "I have heard about the weird. Is it... really weird?" She wasn't sure she was making herself clear her. She hoped she was.

And maybe it was only one pony, but when Pinkie got going she seemedlike a lot more.
"And one of the teachers is a ghost. And sometimes weird things like syrup fall from the sky. Or you turn into a child. Or a male."
She couldn't help but shudder a little.
"And sometimes things attack or invade or whatever."

"So it is not all bad." She would take any chance to kick something hostile.

Back home she often woke up to Marcus growling at her through the mirror. Here it was more her fear of the Hawklord taking away her chance to be a Hawk if she didn't follow the rules and get to her classes.
As for bathrooms, Kaylin hadn't had one - or running water - where she lived until she'd come here.

Well, all the more reason to keep it blood-free.

If Teela was here she'd probably make some snide comment about how she was still waiting to see this 'best'. For years now.

Laura could fight her if she woke in a bad mood. Attempts to take her life over an alarm clock weren't the most ridiculous she had risked her neck for.
