Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Okay, admittedly, having a picnic at the beginning of January wasn't the best idea the school had ever come up with. Thankfully, the weather was sort of agreeable today - it wasn't too chilly, the sun was out, and there were still pretty pockets of unmelted snow on the lawn.

In the middle of the lawn, a bonfire had been set up for warmth and light--mostly the warmth--and the tables and chairs had been set out to mostly be in the sun. There was a long table with a variety of moddable warm foods, and there was the usual table of nametags and lists to help folks find their siblings and roommates. With everything set up, it was time to welcome the new folks!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"I have only the bag I brought from... home." Not exactly home, but yeah.

She could feel the awkwardness and the effort. Laura could appreciate that. "Thank you."

"You're welcome."

There was an awkward pause.

"It's not a bad place," Kaylin said after a moment. "I mean, it's not home and it's very weird and crazy things happen, but... I expected to absolutely hate it and I don't."

Another pause. "And there's always lots of food. Like at the picnics and in the common rooms and if you ever order take-out they always give you like four times what you ordered, no one knows why."

"It seems... very welcoming." A bit too much for Laura's tastes, but so far, so good. She nodded at the comment of the food. That much was true. "I have no issues with extra food."

She stared a bit at Kaylin before adding. "I have heard about the weird. Is it... really weird?" She wasn't sure she was making herself clear her. She hoped she was.

"There are talking pink ponies," Kaylin said, as if that in itself made the answer self-evident.

And maybe it was only one pony, but when Pinkie got going she seemedlike a lot more.

"And one of the teachers is a ghost. And sometimes weird things like syrup fall from the sky. Or you turn into a child. Or a male."

She couldn't help but shudder a little.

"And sometimes things attack or invade or whatever."

Talking oddly colored animals she could deal with. Ghosts too. Raining syrup... maybe. "Male?" An eyebrow went up. Okay, so maybe she didn't want to see how Logan looked as a teenager. Daken? God, no.

"So it is not all bad." She would take any chance to kick something hostile.

"No. Even," and this was a huge concession for her, "some of the classes aren't stupid."

"Once I go through the week, I will let you know what I think." But yeah, some sounded pretty stupid.

Kaylin nodded. "I expect we'll see each other to talk about it. Given that we're living in the same room and all."

"That is right. I wake up early and usually sleep late, but I won't make noise to let you be." Boundaries were important. That meant she would need to be extra careful when she needed to release stress in the worst possible way. And keep the bathroom clean.
notamascot: (So?)

"I don't sleep all that well," Kaylin admitted. "But i usually end up in bed really late and then walking up can be a problem."

Back home she often woke up to Marcus growling at her through the mirror. Here it was more her fear of the Hawklord taking away her chance to be a Hawk if she didn't follow the rules and get to her classes.

As for bathrooms, Kaylin hadn't had one - or running water - where she lived until she'd come here.

"I can set an alarm if you want." Because Laura would not offer to wake her herself; handling sleeping people frightened her a bit, specially if Kaylin had trouble sleeping.

Well, all the more reason to keep it blood-free.

"You could try..." Kaylin wasn't sure how great an idea that was. "I might break it though. Without meaning to, of course, but first thing in the morning... I'm not always at my best."

If Teela was here she'd probably make some snide comment about how she was still waiting to see this 'best'. For years now.

"I can place it at my side of the room."

Laura could fight her if she woke in a bad mood. Attempts to take her life over an alarm clock weren't the most ridiculous she had risked her neck for.

"That might work," Kaylin said. "Just don't hold it against me if I still don't get up."
